Sushi, hotpots and Spirited Away inspired interiors—two Tiger Lane venues are opening in November

In exciting news for foodies all over Canberra, Tiger Lane (an all-new dining destination inspired by the hawker centres of Asia) has announced that Japanese dining destinations, Taki and Inari, are opening in November.

Introducing a curated collection of modern Asian food experiences from higher-end dining experiences to fun, lively street food, the unveiling of stage one will see the two venues helmed by acclaimed Australian chef Shaun Presland.

With a focus on Yakiniku cooked over charcoal, with local and imported Wagyu—all complemented by a contemporary Japanese a la carte menu which includes a Wagyu shabu shabu hotpot and a chicken and seafood hotpot—the first to open is Taki. Launching in early November, those who adore the iconic Studio Ghibli creation Spirited Away are in for an extra treat: the interiors are inspired by the imaginative animated film.

Divided into three spaces, Taki features a topographic tatami to the left of the restaurant, a kitchen surrounded by fresh produce in the centre, and to the right, the main dining room. Panels of pine timber and stone finishes define the mood in the dining spaces, with sets of mirrors along the walls that merge the boundaries.

Opening soon after is Inari, an authentic Japanese restaurant that will pay homage to Japanese 1960s retrofuturism. And with a retro-futuristic inspired venue menu (think sushi with dishes including the dynamite roll with seven pepper and chilli soy marinated tuna; the Inari Shojin roll with tofu atsuage; Inari tempura roll with tuna, salmon and kingfish), it’ll offer the best of Asian cuisine with a twist.

As for the interiors—taking inspiration from a time when society transformed and lost constraints from tradition—Inari’s layout is balanced by a restrained and nostalgic colour palette, creating a space which feels grown up yet fun—perfect for catching up with friends.

As Presland is set to become a familiar face about town as he guides the Tiger Lane precinct from concept to reality, he’s excited to finally to bring to life two of the 12 dining outlets that will bring a fresh and vibrant vibe to Canberra’s food scene.

“We’re so thrilled to finally open the doors to one of the most exciting food experiences in Australia. Tiger lane will up the ante of the food scene in Canberra, with unique and notable venues at every corner, the diverse offering is sure to have something for everybody.”
