The Canberra Centre is upping its foodie game – and we’re here for the rooftop bar

Posted on

Civic’s Bunda Street is entering a new era – and foodies will be in a froth.

The Canberra Centre has just unveiled a major dining transformation, with a wave of new restaurant openings, relocations and fresh new concepts set to reshape the popular dining strip.

And from Canberra’s first Yo-Bar to a bold new steak destination and a rooftop bar, the refresh will bring new flavours to the area.

The first cab off the rank is the reopening of Kinn Thai on Friday 8 May (that’s right, this Friday). Relocating to a brand new, larger space next to INKA and Uniqlo, they’ll be bringing their signature energy to a completely reimagined venue, complete with a striking new fit-out. But don’t worry, you’ll still be able to enjoy all the dishes you know (and love).

Also opening on Friday 8 May, Hunter & Barrel is finally opening its doors after much anticipation. Taking over the former Carlotta site, you’ll be able to sink your teeth into a meat-focused menu. Known for its rustic character, flame-grilled steaks, barrel-aged spirits and relaxed hospitality, it’s already loved across Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth.

What else is coming?

Meat lovers can’t miss the arrival of

a bold new steak destination focused on expertly prepared cuts and a refined, modern dining experience. Joining it will be 38 Katsu. Promising to bring a unique take on premium Japanese-style katsu, you might have already tried its food at Verity Lane Market.

As for what’s taking over the space that previously housed Kinn Thai? Two new offerings: Bocca by Frankie B’s (a family-style Italian concept centred around generous, share-friendly dining), and Canberra’s first Yo-Bar – a self-serve frozen yoghurt and açai experience.

If that’s not enough, Oh My Papa will also be opening to introduce a multi-level offering spanning two floors. Complete with a rooftop bar, the venue will bring a high-energy mix of drinks, dining and late-night atmosphere. And if you’ve been to the one in Newcastle, you know how good it is.

Canberra Centre Marketing Manager Amy Young says that the evolution of Bunda Street reflects a deliberate shift towards a more dynamic and elevated dining experience.

“Bunda Street has always been a key destination within the city, and what we’re seeing now is a real transformation of that space,” she explains.

“We’re bringing together a mix of established favourites, exciting new concepts, elevated dining experiences and family-friendly offerings that give people more reasons to visit, stay longer and come back more often.”

“This is just the beginning, with more to come as we continue to evolve the precinct and introduce new experiences.”

Keep an eye on this space for the juicy details on what else is coming!
