Woden After Work

Canberrans love a new place to eat—so how about six?
With the launch of Westfield Woden’s Bradley Street Dining Precinct, local workers and residents suddenly have a whole lot more options when it comes to grabbing an after-work bevvie, cuppa or meal.
Complementing Westfield Woden’s existing dining offering on Corinna Street, the new strip boasts a whole world of flavour.

Anchoring the area’s newest eat street is contemporary gastropub Fenway Public House. Boasting multi-levels including a mezzanine which overlooks a large U-shaped bar, a sunken indoor beer garden, cocktail sunroom, and large integrated TV screens, the 350-seater is nothing if not versatile.
Floor Manager Nicholas Clarke says Woden’s newest local is a great option for those who previously had to travel for a casual drink or feed.

“It’s the perfect location for south-siders who previously haven’t had somewhere to go after work,” says Nicholas. “While Woden is well-served by clubs, Fenway offers a great environment whether you’re keen for a quiet chat or a lively happy hour!”
Which, by the way, happens 4:30 pm to 6:30pm every Monday to Thursday, when Fenway will be serving up $5 selected beers and wines, and two-for-one Espresso Martinis.
And with an exciting selection of local and international wines and tap beers and a menu boasting classic pub comfort food—think lamb shanks, pot pies, steaks and more—it’s a place to settle in.
Nicholas says the response to the new precinct from people who live and work in the area has been phenomenal.
“From what it was as a car park this time last year, to the thousands and thousands of people that are coming down every week—it shows the community was crying out for it.”

Just a few doors up, coffee shop/dessert bar hybrid Espresso Warriors X Sugar Rush is packing in patrons looking for a different kind of after-work experience (because it’s never too late for a caffeine or sugar fix!).
A playful space with pops of pink and neon and serving up a range of coffees, loose leaf teas and a delectable menu of treats, it’s found firm fans in local sweet tooths.
“We cater for everyone from two-year-olds to 80-year-olds,” says Café Manager Jodie Phillips. “From Mum and Dad wanting coffee and cake, to kids wanting a waffle, to moviegoers who sit around and talk about what they’ve just seen.”
Jodie says the Bradley Street Precinct is long overdue.
“Every single person from the Woden area who has come in has said that they’ve been waiting for this for years—because there’s nowhere where they can just go and sit and relax and not have to worry about the noise of, you know, being in a club.”
It’s just one of the reasons that Espresso Warriors X Sugar Rush has attracted a strong local following (another is that you can get 10% if you work in the Woden district).
“We’re open at 9 o’clock in the morning, and we don’t close till 10 pm. So people don’t have to be rushed out, they don’t have to worry about finding a park, and things like that.”
As for the rest of Bradley Street’s new after-work offerings, that’s a truly international affair.

North East serves up Vietnamese but not as you know it. Start with an Insta-worthy cocktail and stay for the perfectly balanced share plates of fresh, modern Vietnamese cuisine—perfect for a night out with friends.
If you’re a fan of German beer and cuisine, forget the airfare—once you step inside The Bavarian you’ll be transported to Europe. Look past the custom-designed vintage beer barrel wall and beer stein chandelier, and you’ll find a family-friendly menu boasting legendary crispy pork knuckles, an assortment of schnitzels, and 20 beers on tap including imported Bavarian favourites, Lowenbrau, Stiegl, and Hofbrau.

Sushi Musa’s 30m conveyer belt takes Canberra sushi trains to the next level, offering a cute and social way to enjoy Japanese cuisine with groups big or small. Select from traditional rolls, nigiri, or sashimi all delivered right to you, or select from the à la carte menu if sushi isn’t your thing.

Last, but not least—still to come, the much-anticipated Golden Child. Expect contemporary Chinese cuisine in a stylish setting (and did we mention there’ll be cocktails?). Opening soon.
So the next time you’re tossing up where to go for after-work drinks or dinner, give the usual suspects a swerve and head to Bradley Street Dining Precinct. You might just find your new local.
