Have you ever wondered whether single-sex education is right for your daughter?

Canberra Girls Grammar School’s upcoming Junior School Open Evening gives you a chance to find out.

With a focus on high potential learners and keeping class sizes small to promote individual attention, independent, non-selective Anglican school Canberra Girls Grammar School (CGGS) is at the forefront of educational innovation in the ACT. And it has the track record of achievement and academic results to prove it.

CGGS is girls only from Year 3 onwards, and while parents should always make a decision based on the needs of their child, after 30 years’ experience in education, the Head of Junior School Angela Whitaker has seen the benefits of single-sex education first-hand.

“I can say without hesitation that more girls do well in a girls’ only environment,” she says. “While many parents may intend to send their daughter to a girls’ school for their senior years, I strongly encourage them to start early to get maximum benefit.”

“Our signature programs attend to each girl’s well-being and character development. This, coupled with our high academic standards, provides a smooth transition to the senior years. Lastly, strong girls, nurtured from an early age in an environment that is tailored specifically for them, grow into strong women who can confidently advocate for themselves in any setting.”

Angela has worked in schools around Australia and the world and she says CGGS stands out thanks to its tradition of supporting its students to reach their potential.

“I would rank Canberra Girl’s Grammar Junior School as number one for the quality of education provided, the calibre of the students, and the warmth and collegiality of the staff,” she explains. “I also feel very privileged to be part of an Australian school that is internationally-minded, has a strong service culture and a long and rich history.”

With resources like the world-class Early Learning Centre (ELC) and the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme for students from the ELC to Year 6, academic achievement is a core part of the CGGS experience.

But the CGGS Junior School also prides itself on prioritising the well-being of all students and cultivating a broad perspective that is supported by the cultural diversity of school community.

You can experience some of the features which make the Junior School unique in a fun Expo style event aimed at prospective families on Tuesday 28 May. On the night, parents and children can expect to be entertained by the talented Junior School musicians while enjoying a grazing table and hot beverage and food stalls.

The Evening will showcase both the Junior School curriculum and the wide range of co-curricular activities on offer, including the Music Academy, sport, clubs, specialist offerings and the Signature Programs. There will also be a panel of experts available to answer questions, plus games and activities to keep the kids happy.

“Deciding on the right school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will ever make,” says Angela. “It’s very important to visit and to do your homework.”
