This might just be Canberra’s most beautiful co-working office

Posted on

The good news? You could move in as soon as this week. The better news? It’s so much more affordable than you think.

Introducing Commonplace, a co-working space for freelancers, small businesses and sole traders alike. It’s a place for those who want to turn their side-gig full-time or take their business to new heights.

If COVID has taught us anything, it’s that working from home can be monotonous, but working from a mundane office can be as unproductive as it is expensive.

“Working from Commonplace on the other hand, is anything but,” says venue manager Isabelle Thompson.

“Commonplace was birthed from the idea that every business, no matter how small, deserves an office space that is beautiful, affordable and most importantly, inspiring.

“It’s for all the small businesses who need a dedicated place to work. Who can’t work from home because there’s no separation between work and home life. Who can’t afford the delve into a lease for their own workspace. Who are one-person teams who want to be surrounded by likeminded people. And who above all else are looking for a place that motivates them to do their best work.”

Commonplace is a design collaboration between Melina Design Group and Studio & You, and adopts a creative yet professional and sophisticated approach.

The goal of the space was to reimagine the concept of today’s working environment and provide a space which considers the necessities of the modern working day, but more importantly, implements a sense of enjoyment for the task at hand.

“They say ‘choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.’ The same concept should apply to your workspace, right?” says co‐owner of Studio & You Alanna Kochel.

“Commonplace is a considered working space which immerses the user in an environment full of natural light, vibrance and texture to evoke both well-being and productivity. Overall It looks and feels professional but at the same time chic and fun.”

A carefully selected colour palette and finishes help create a space specially made for developing brilliant ideas—terrazzo stairs, raw concrete, profiled oak timber and black fixtures are contrasted by the splashes of terracotta walls, blush pink velvet seating and ample greenery.

Elegant black desks are blank canvases. A colour-blocked meeting room is fitted with the most up-to-date technology required for any professional meeting.

Luxurious booth seats perfect for impromptu meetings, working lunches or semi-private phone calls. Even the kitchen, bathroom and locker area is worthy of gracing the pages of any luxe interiors magazine, as opposed to your everyday office.

Membership options range from full-time desks to open desks and day-only desks and all come with high-speed internet, security, cleaning and printing facilities.

Situated at the Narrabundah shops, Commonplace studio is centrally located and neighbours an array of convenient amenities including a supermarket, post office and medical centres.

It rubs shoulders with some of Canberra’s finest eateries including hotspots Manuka, Kingston and Braddon which, mind you, are only about 10-minutes away.

But it’s the Commonplace collaborative community that Isabelle says will really help business owners thrive

“Being surrounded by likeminded professionals cultivates networking and relationship opportunities to collaborate on work, share ideas and resources or simply share experiences that contribute to the overall success of your business. Opportunities that mightn’t otherwise have come about if you had been working from home or from your own office,” says Isabelle.
