The past year has certainly put a lot of things on hold, but there are some things you can’t stop. Like a great idea.
Canberra Innovation Network (CBRIN) is a hub for fostering brilliant ideas and nurturing entrepreneurs and startups, SMEs (small-to-medium-sized enterprises) and researchers, and empowering them to make an impact and change the world. Based in Civic, CBRIN also offers networking, workshops, co-working, and other support for budding entrepreneurs and start-ups to build on their ambition and reach their potential, as well as running programs for researchers and partnering with the local universities.
On Wednesday 1 December, CBRIN will host its annual end of year showcase, to celebrate the people, ideas and industries that make the capital a globally-recognised creative business hub.
The teams from some of their most exciting projects will face off against each other in a Shark Tank-style pitch-fest as part of the end of year event—and everyone’s invited. All attendees even get a chance to put on their own judging hat.
The event is free, and this year will be held virtually via virtual conference platform Remo, with live judging and audience participation, a pitch competition, guest speeches and more.
“Always slightly different, the annual showcase is a highly popular and energising event designed to demonstrate the essence of our vibrant innovation ecosystem; it’s full of amazing stories from entrepreneurs ready to change the world,” says CBRIN CEO Petr Adámek.
“Attendees will experience virtual networking like never before, hear a keynote from ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr, learn from phenomenal, established and upcoming entrepreneurs, and enjoy rapid-fire pitches to our stellar corporate judge panel. This will be followed by a chance to vote for the crowd favourite pitch and engage with the ever-growing Canberra innovation community.”
Those pitching will be vying for a total of $3,000 in prize money. Corporate judges this year are Annabel Griffin from King & Wood Mallesons, Kavin Arnasalon from Optus, Rosanne Brand
from PwC, and Todd Eagles from ActewAGL, with each awarding a $500 prize. The remaining $1,000 will be awarded to the best pitch, chosen purely by attendees. The proceedings will be emceed by Rae Knopik, founder of CBR Gals Network.
And given the event is virtual, you’re completely in charge of your dress code and the catering this year (champagne in your sweatpants anyone?).
So whether you’re a creative businessperson, an innovator, entrepreneur, researcher, student, investor, or just someone interested in innovation and entrepreneurship, CBRIN’s end of year showcase is once you’ll probably want to try and squeeze into the social diary this festive season.
