Canberra, DVCS urgently needs your help
Posted on
Each month Domestic Violence Crisis Service (DVCS) supports almost 900 people in the ACT community, but over the Christmas and New Year period, that significantly increases.
The Domestic Violence Crisis Service (DVCS) is an inclusive service supporting children, young people and adults who are impacted by domestic and family violence, including those who use violence and want to take steps to stop their use of violence within their relationships.
DVCS is a 24/7 crisis intervention service providing safety planning, legal advocacy, support groups, access to emergency accommodation and security upgrades, support to young people, women and their families, supporting men to stop using violence and awareness, training and education.
Each month DVCS supports almost 900 people in the ACT community, but over the Christmas and New Year period, that significantly increases.
From time to time DVCS supports clients who have extra needs and/or are incredibly vulnerable.
This could be because of a range of reasons, including that they or their children have a disability, their or their children’s age, they have no access to income or are not eligible for any Government or other support payments.
Right now DVCS is experiencing an increase in clients presenting with complex needs and limited financial resources.
If you have a spare $30, they would be grateful if you might consider purchasing a Woolworths, Coles or BigW voucher and posting it to them to:
Domestic Violence Crisis Service
Attention: Alanna
PO Box 1922
Fyshwick

Right now this is the best way you can support their clients.
This will help them to purchase formula, bottles, nappies and other staples a parent with children needs a week before Christmas.
DVCS will continue to work with all of their clients to support them to meet their and their children’s needs over the Christmas break and help transition out of emergency accommodation.
Alternatively, if you would prefer not to send a voucher via post, we encourage you to purchase via DVCS’ online shopping portal. This allows you to purchase grocery vouchers, petrol vouchers, phone credit, security upgrades or just make a contribution via Secret Santa Appeal at dvcs.org.au/get-involed/events.
DVCS remains operational over the Christmas and New Year period and can be contacted, 24/7, on 02 62 800 900 or dvcs.org.au.
You do not have to give them your name and you do not have to report to Police before contacting them.
If you are worried about a loved one, or not sure what you are experiencing, we encourage you to get in touch with them for a chat.
Canberra really is a lovely community and DVCS are honoured to support those living here and experiencing violence within their relationships.
Thank you for your continued support, Canberra.
