10 kid-friendly places to eat in Canberra

Posted on

Planning a meal out with kids can feel like a mission. But what if we told you there are plenty of kid-friendly places to eat in Canberra that don’t involve fast food and fluorescent lights?

That’s right – we’re talking about a meal that involves no clean up, no crying (hopefully) and maybe even a glass of wine for those who want one.

Covering everything from cafes to restaurants, each of these venues offers a kid-friendly menu and an atmosphere that all ages will enjoy (and some even come with a bonus of a playground close by!).

Here are 10 kid-friendly places to eat in Canberra – parents, this one is for you.

Little Istanbul (Greenway)

Turkish might not be the cuisine that comes to mind when trying to decide where to dine out with kids, with a menu designed for ages zero to 13, Little Istanbul in Tuggeranong will quickly change your mind. Let the kids choose from a chicken, lamb or kofte skewer and a side or a kids’ pide, while you dig into some of Canberra’s finest Turkish food.

Two Blind Mice (Curtin)

Spaghetti Napoletana for the kids and Slow Cooked Lamb Shanks for the adults – Two Blind Mice in Curtin covers all your bases. With a courtyard so the kids can run around if they get antsy and a cosy indoor dining space for when the weather gets cold, order yourself an Aperol Spritz and them a lemonade while making the most of the early dinner service.

Public (Griffith)

This elevated pub might be great for adults (have you seen that cocktail list?) but with a killer kids’ menu, it’s also the perfect spot for a family-friendly dinner or lunch. While you eat your way through lamb ragu, steak frites and chorizo and jalapeno pizza, the kids can choose from all the classics – think fish and chips, a cheeseburger, tomato pasta and ice cream for dessert. Perfect for fussy eaters, book yourself a seat for an early dinner and enjoy.

Wildflour (Fyshwick)

Brunch isn’t off the menu when you have kids in tow, because the Wildflour Café in Fyshwick ticks all the boxes: there’s a playground close by, there’s kid-friendly options on the menu and it’s relaxing – perfect for enjoying a well-deserved, peaceful moment sipping on coffee. Let the kids burn off energy at the colourful inbuilt playground before hyping them up all over again with a chocolate Kidshake and the Kid’s Pancake.
