Trigger Warning: DV After the untimely loss of a loved one, it is impossible to…
Pets and companion animals play an irreplaceable role in our lives. Their unconditional affection lifts us, and we’d do anything to ensure their safety and wellbeing.
But for some of Canberra’s most vulnerable people, this isn’t a promise they can always make.
The Rainbow Paws Program was set up as a way to help these members of our community access safe and affordable care for their beloved pets in times of need.
Delivering food, shelter and care with respect and humility, The Rainbow Paws Program provides free and subsidised medical treatment, food and essential pet items such as collars and bedding for vulnerable Canberrans such as those experiencing temporary or long-term homelessness, those in refuges or temporary housing, farmers experiencing drought, elderly Canberrans who are isolated and individuals with mental health or physical disabilities.
Like many charities, the Rainbow Paws program has seen an uptick in people accessing their services as a result of COVID-19 and the bushfires, with demand expected to increase further before the end of the year.
They’ve also experienced a drop-off in charitable donations. However, the good news is that you now you have a chance to help them provide this selfless service.

The Rainbow Paws Program’s annual raffle is now open and will support their ‘Hotel Bookings’ program, which allows Canberrans to access pet boarding facilities when a crisis arises, such as an unexpected hospital admission or entrance into emergency accommodation—and there are some pawsome prizes to be won, including a 1-night stay at Jamala Wildlife Lodge (uShaka Lodge, valued at $1195), a $280 Pawtrait session with Wilomark Imagery and $500 credit for photos and a double pass for the Awesome Roarsome Tour at the National Zoo & Aquarium Canberra (valued at $250).
With tickets only $5 each and 800 tickets available in total, it’s a chance for you to support some of Canberra’s most vulnerable pets in their time of need.
