Five things to do down the South Coast this spring

Posted on

Pre-planning some trips to the South Coast this spring?

Not that you need them, but we’ve rounded up five reasons you’ll want to hit the road to explore the stunning seaside throughout October and November.

From a community market to foodie-themed events, pop these in your diary and thank us later.

Explore Lagom Bakery’s first Community Market

This lakeside bakery has something of a cult following, and if you haven’t been to Lagom Bakery before, their first Community Market is the perfect excuse.

Known for creating slow-fermented, hand-crafted bread that’s good for your gut (and has won some serious accolades), as well as buttery croissants and other carby snacks, on Sunday 13 October, Lagom is hosting a special market to celebrate the local community.

Gathering a range of stalls from local creatives and makers, from art, florals, ceramics and more, you’ll be sure to discover something. Plus, to add to the ‘feel-good’ vibes, it’s also a fundraiser for Safe Waters Community Care – an Ulladulla-based shelter and service supporting the most vulnerable people in the community. Bring some extra cash to snag yourself some raffle tickets or to donate to those in need so they can have access to basic necessities and little treats.

Go on, go get that bread.

Sunday 13 October, 9 am – 12 pm | Lagom Bakery car park, 98 McDonald Parade, Burrill Lake | More information here.

Enjoy Sculptures, Sips and Sounds at Willinga Park

We wrote earlier this year about how much the HerCanberra team loved our little retreat to Willinga Park, a 2,300-acre tranquil oasis on the South Coast – so it only feels right to let you know that, for one day only, you can explore this sanctuary for yourself.

Opening its gates on Sunday 13 October, from 11 am until 5 pm, you’ll be able to immerse yourself in a fusion of art, nature, food, and music with an unforgettable self-guided tour through their stunning Sculpture Walk, eat gourmet offerings from local food vendors and enjoy live music.

Perfect for the whole family – including your four-legged friends – if you can work it into the budget, we recommend staying in the Luxury Pavilions nestled in the heart of Willinga Park’s stunning landscape. With a heated swimming pool, alfresco dining area, and beautifully landscaped gardens, it’s the perfect way to end the day.

Sunday 13 October,  11 am – 5 pm | Willinga Park, Forster Drive, Bawley Point |  Book here.

Try the spirits of Jervis Bay

A whole festival dedicated to the best of local spirits and cuisine on the South Coast? We’ll be there.

Set against the stunning backdrop of Jervis Bay, the Spirits of Jervis Bay Festival is taking place for one day only to bring the finest handcrafted spirits from the region’s most talented distilleries to White Sands Park. From sampling whiskies, vodkas, rums, and gins to eating your way through delicious food from range of vendors including Peta and Eva Pizza, Nanis Food Truck, Phantom BBQ, Fatty Dumplings and more, it’s your chance to try the culinary creativity that Jervis Bay has to offer.

Plus, with live music, masterclasses, distillery and cocktail demonstrations, and more, it promises to be an unforgettable celebration of fine spirits and good times.

Saturday 23 November, 12 pm | White Sands Park, 2 Beach Street, Huskisson | Book here.

Celebrate French culture by the seaside

Combing several of our favourite things – the South Coast with French culture, food and wine – Cupitt’s Estate is hosting its own Beaujolais Day.

The perfect excuse to indulge in the first wine release of the season – Beaujolais Nouveau – paired with delectable French-inspired dishes, you’ll enjoy an evening of wine tastings, lawn games, and a touch of France without having to leave the country. Make the most of the exclusive wine tasting station with Gamay from multiple regions and thank us later.

Limited spots are available, so get in quick!

Thursday 2 November, 5.30 pm – 8.30 pm | 58 Washburton Road, Ulladulla | Book here.

Try a tipple or two at Foxdog Distillery

Newly opened in the scenic hills of Sunnyside Park, Mogo, Foxdog Distillery is a family-owned distillery offering visitors the chance to savour spirits crafted on-site, enjoy casual dining and partake in interactive distilling experiences.

From sipping on Signature Gin, Mandarin Gin, Samphire Gin, Vanilla Vodka, and more (each of which have been created with locally sourced ingredients that celebrate the essence of the land) to eating homemade sourdough with balsamic glaze and black mussels, it’s the perfect spiritual (get it?) experience for spring. Keep an eye out – there will also be tours, and a two-hour distilling workshop available later in the year, for those who want to create their own uniquely flavoured spirit.

Open Tuesday to Thursday, 11 am – 4 pm and Friday to Sunday, 11 am – 8 pm | Sunnyside Farm, 312 Tomakin Road, Mogo | foxdogdistillery.com
