It’s a folking good time of year: The Cobargo Folk Festival is back
Posted on
Three hours south of Canberra, get ready for a long weekend filled with folk and roots music, song, dance, craft and more.
What started 27 years ago as a street festival on the historic main street of Cobargo has since blossomed into a three-day celebration of good tunes and even better energy. Meet The Cobargo Folk Festival.
Organised by the not-for-profit Yuin Folk Club, the group makes sure the lineup each year represents all the diverse aspects of folk and roots music in Australia today. The 2023 Festival will be no different wuth over fifty artists will be taking to the stage including fan-favourites Kutcha Edwards, Eric Bogle and the Antipodeans.
Unlike most festivals, this is a family affair and set in the idyllic town of Cobargo surrounded by nature (and just half an hour to the beach) it’s the perfect getaway. It’s a great way to support this resilient community that was devastated by the Black Summer Bushfires. From the big folk to the little there is something planned for everybody over the weekend.
Got some youngsters in tow? Head along to the creative corner, get merry with a maypole, dare to learn the djembe drums or brave some belly dances.
For those who are young at heart, head along to a musical workshop or just sit back and let the music wash over you.
Don’t want to miss a moment of the action? Dig around in your garage and find your tent because camping will be permitted on the grounds.
Although with this unpredictable weather adding a tarp and raincoat will not go astray.
If you can’t make it to down to Cobargo have no fear — the National Folk Festival will be here in Canberra before you know it.
Tickets are on sale now.
