Meet the HerCanberra Team: Georgie Smith, Digital Content Producer
Posted on
Have you ever wondered who’s behind the glorious photos, reels, and stories showcasing the best bits of the nation’s capital?
We thought it was time to reintroduce ourselves, so you can get to know the people behind the website bios. In this new series, we’ll introduce the HerCanberra team, their likes and dislikes, and what makes them tick. With our hard-hitting questions, you’ll get a sneak peek into their personal lives and some of their deepest darkest secrets. These profiles won’t disappoint.
Next up is our triple-threat Digital Content Producer, Georgie Smith. Not only is she a whizz with social media (Georgie is the brilliant person behind our TikTok page), but she’s also a teacher at Dance Central Canberra and a makeup artist in her (minimal) spare time. Creative, bubbly and fun, this girl doesn’t stop hustling.

Favourite colour?
Yellow, because it’s bright and happy. It reminds me of sunshine.
Favourite flower?
Basic, but red roses.
Cats or dogs?
Sadly neither, I’m kind of scared of both. But working at HC means battling this fear daily.
Tea or coffee?
Tea. I am already pretty hyper, so you can only imagine what coffee does to me. However, matcha has been a manageable caffeine hit for me recently!
Morning or night?
Night. I feel like I tend to come alive at night, whether I’m at dance or dining with friends. There is always something to look forward to. On the other hand I love being cosy, having a bath and indulging in a bedtime night routine.

North side or south side?
Southside. I am totally bias, as I’ve lived there my whole life, but I think it’s just better.
Favourite season in Canberra?
Autumn, I love the cooler weather (but not the frost in winter). I like autumn fashion and Canberra just looks so pretty with all the fallen leaves.
What’s the last book you read?
All Your Perfects by Colleen Hoover. Don’t judge me – I like very easy to read, cringey, cheesy romantic stories. I have the ACOTAR series on my to-read list!
What’s your go-to comfort movie and/or TV show?
This depends on the time of year!
Summer is Veronica Mars and Gossip Girl. Autumn is obviously Gilmore Girls. Winter is Twilight, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Harry Potter. Spring is Sex And The City and Coyote Ugly. All throughout the year I will watch the Scream franchise – I’ve probably seen all six films like 15 times each. I am a huge horror movie fan.

If you were on death row, what would your last meal be?
There are so many things I could want! I couldn’t just pick one, so I’m going to list off the first things that came to my head:
- An In-N-Out Animal Style Burger.
- Akiba’s Kingfish and Chicken Bao Bun.
- Little Mez Chicken Souva.
- Mango sticky rice
- The drink would have to be a FAT, icy cold Coke.
Go to Canberra restaurant recommendations?
Beltana Farm. The food is so yummy and the general aesthetic/vibe is beautiful. I can’t wait to revisit it in summer time.
What’s your irrational fear?
Slime and Play Dough. The consistency and texture of both really frighten me and from a hygienic point of view, they would hold so much bacteria. Yuck, yuck and yuck.
If you could invite anyone to dinner, dead or alive, who would you invite?
This is tough! I have late relatives who I wish I met. My middle name is Shakuntala, which comes from my Pati (Grandma) who passed away just before I was born. I would have loved to have met her. It is a huge honour to carry her name. Even if it is a mouthful. My full name is Georgina Shakuntala Mary Smith.
I also have celebrities I am inspired by and would love to have a moment to pick their brain for advice. Someone like Rihanna. As a dancer, makeup artist, fashion and marketing girlie, Rihanna is obviously someone who ticks so many of those boxes.
What’s the most random thing you’ve done for work?
Aside from working at HC, I work as a dance teacher and am a makeup artist. Being a dance teacher to young children means sometimes cleaning up “accidents”. As a makeup artist, I work a lot of weddings and tend to witness some heated moments.
However, the most random thing I’ve done would be a Buccal Facial at the Baske Beauty Studio. If you don’t know what that is, it’s basically a facial where the beautician puts their fingers into the buccal cavity (the space between your teeth and the inside of your cheeks). To massage your skin from the inside. It was so relaxing, I fell asleep and snored. Yep, we’ll link it.

What’s your Canberra hidden gem?
Little Mez in Woden is my absolute favourite Mediterranean food. The Chicken Souva and Iced Matcha Latte with Strawberry Rose syrup is heaven sent.
