Old school meets modern at the Cock and Crown barbershop

The best barber experience is as simple as a cut, shave and beer in hand.

It might sound like a scene out of an old movie but Canberra’s premium men’s salon, the Cock and Crown, has been providing the perfect combination of traditional barbering with a salon experience for over seven years.

Founded and owned by Tim Kinsela, the Cock and Crown is now open at a brand new location in Furzer Street, Woden, expanding their space to offer more men a little bit more value for hair.

Full of leather barber chairs and basins, old school mirrors, the best products available and the perfect fusion of retro and modern vibes, the experience starts as soon as you walk in the door with a consultation and the offer of a home brewed beer, cider or a soft drink

“We wanted to merge traditional barbering with the salon experience, you know half an hour, you can make a booking, you can get a complimentary drink and good conversation,” says Tim.

“Almost like that feeling of community.”

Perfect for the busy bloke, the Cock and Crown offers easy to book appointments so there’s no need to queue during lunchtimes or during the weekend.

Just a five minute walk from Westfield Woden the larger location also means Tim and his team, which includes female barbers Bella and Rochelle, can take more clients including walk-ins. However he warns bookings are usually essential.

“It’s less about volume, it’s about quality,” he explains. “For blokes, we’re hopeless…We don’t know what to do with our hair.”

With over 17 years experience working in the industry, Tim says he’s always wanted to create a place where men can get a great haircut and learn how to style it themselves so they can feel their best.

“Clients don’t generally ask for advice and so that was always the thing, was to have that ‘Would you like me to tell you how to style your hair? Why does it stick up in the back like that?’…It’s really that experience as opposed to just cutting it how it already was.” says Tim.

To go along with the old-school aesthetic, men can also treat themselves to a cut throat shave for a more traditional experience.

“I call it a man-icure,” says Tim. “It’s a treat! Often men do it for a bucks party or for before a wedding or just a special occasion.”

Open Monday to Saturday, call or text to make a booking, get ready to go back in time and enjoy a pamper perfect for any man.

The unique old school barbershop experience has never sounded so good.
