ROADTEST: AQUACISE

Posted on

Previously, I have written about the benefits of water exercise activities for rehabilitation. Aquacise is another prime example of this. If you have sore muscles, recovering from an injury, or getting back into exercise, aquacise is ideal.

Aquacise is basically an aerobics class in water and it is hard!

Think about the basic aerobic exercises you would do at a gym such as jumping, or leg or arm exercises. Try doing it in water. The resistance against the water makes it very difficult.

You have to use all of your muscles especially your core. At one point we used kick board to push against the water while we were running. Trust me, you don’t move very far!

The benefit of aquacise is there is no impact. The water allows you to move and exercise the muscles without the strain of the ground or other objects.

Our instructor at Kingswim demonstrated how to hold our core during each exercise and I found it difficult enough to hold that and stand up in the water. I felt like I had done aerobics and pilates!

There was so much attention to the muscles, core and how to hold each, whilst being able to do both and fight the pull of the water. This is serious exercise without pain. The water temperature is even set at 33 degrees to help relax the muscles.

Further benefits Kings mention for Aquacise include:

  • Assistance in maintaining bone density
  • Working muscles that are rarely worked on land, and
  • Hydrostatic pressure (the pressure of water on the body) which improves blood circulation and helps decrease fluid retention.

Kingswim have just opened at Majura Park, right near Costco. The pool is very family friendly with pool sizes and water temperature designed for children and babies, whilst accommodating to parents and adults as well.

Adult swim times are available twice a day and Aquacise classes run six times a day.

If you’re struggling with an injury or just looking for something different, head to King’s Majura Park. It’s the perfect summer exercise!
