The breakfast fundraiser that will make you want to #checkyourbits!

Did you know that more Canberran women are being diagnosed with breast cancer than the national average?
In 2019, 302 Canberrans were diagnosed with breast cancer, with over 132 cases per 100,000 women compared to 129 cases per 100,000 women in Australia.
More recent data from 2022 has found that 20,640 people were diagnosed with breast cancer in Australia – and 20,428 of those were women. Sadly, in the same year, 3,214 people died from the disease.
But just in time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Central Social Club is putting on a Pink Ribbon Breakfast event to raise funds for breast cancer research and to make you want to #checkyourbits. The event will include – of course – a yummy breakfast, raffle prizes, and an inspirational story from local Canberran Louize Glenn about why raising funds for breast cancer is so important.
On a lighter note, Louize (who will be sharing her own incredible journey with the disease)posted recently on her LinkedIn saying;
“When I was originally approached to speak, I was so humbled that someone thought my story was capable of influencing others to #checkyourbits.”
“I was all over it. I had started planning an interpretive dance to explain my emotions, followed by audience participation activities.”
However, she then realised that public speaking is something she does not like – who else can relate? So instead she’ll be speaking some “hard facts, some personal reflections, some funny stories and lots of reminders for people to check their bits.”
The event is on Friday October 27, from 8 am to 9.30 am at the Central Social Club. Tickets are $48, but I think the main takeaway is CHECK YOUR BITS LADIES AND GENTS!
