The campaign helping families in need, one nappy at a time

Posted on

Mums know first-hand how stressful and tiring bubs can be, but could you imagine the added stress of not being able to purchase necessities with ease?

The Nappy Collective is a non for profit that is on a mission to make your and your bubs lives easier. The goal is to collect 500,000 nappies to help relieve ‘nappy stress’ in Australian families.

Known as the Clean Bums for Little Ones initiative, the campaign is calling on the community to receive new or leftover disposable nappies.

Your next question is probably, ‘How and where to donate? ‘There are more than 950 collection points situated all around Australia, available for donations until Friday 23 May (that’s right, this Friday). If 500,000 nappies end up being donated, 15,000 families who are in need of these special packages will be helped. It is also in addition to collectively contributing to the charity’s goal of one million nappies being donated this year.

The level of demand this charity has experienced is overwhelming and ultimately proves just how important these donations are and how they can make such a difference. Your small effort will go such a long way to helping mums in need. Everyone needs a helping hand now and then; this is your chance to help someone else.

“They are dealing with rising bills for food, household services and rent, and their budgets just don’t stretch that far,” says The Nappy Collector Chief Executive, Sarah Witty.

“For some parents, it comes down to a choice between food for themselves or nappies for their babies and toddlers.”

You’re probably thinking, that nappies cannot possibly be that expensive. It is estimated that nappies cost 70 dollars a week, which is 3640 dollars a year, which is just one of the many expenses to pay for in the first year of a child’s life. Nappies are a necessity and without nappies (or having access to very few), babies are exposed to infection and discomfort. One in 10 families have reported being in “nappy stress”, equating to 280,000 children under the age of five who are being put at risk each year with the numbers rising.

Generally, the families seeking help are those suffering in situations like domestic violence, homelessness, financial hardship or seeking refuge. Reinstating the cruel reality of how easy it can be to end up in this type of situation. Sarah, says;

“Every donated nappy will help a family in real need. So please get along to a collection point and donate whatever you can.”
