The wonder of winter weddings

 There’s something almost magical about a winter wedding – a white dress against a crisp blue sky, couples cuddling together for warmth, red wine, candles glowing…

Ok, so I may be a little biased (I’m having a winter wedding myself) but the more I think about it, the more I’m convinced a winter wedding has an edge on summer when it comes to comfort levels.

There’ll be no sliding off of makeup, or stifling groomsmen baking in their suits. Brides can be a little more inventive with their dresses without worrying about overheating (lace sleeves, anyone?) and you can make your reception venue extra cosy with candles and romantic lighting, so guests are more likely to stay on the dance floor rather than disappear outside.

It’s something the good folks at Poachers Pantry have tapped into, and as such are offering a special 10 per cent off all winter weddings (which means more money in your pocket for the honeymoon).

The venue has everything you’ll need for a cosy and memorable winter wedding – including a fireplace and wooden floors in the smokehouse cafe, picturesque country surrounds and a nourishing menu with fresh, local produce.

Poachers Pantry wedding coordinator Matthieu Vaysse says the venue will hold an opening night on Wednesday 6 May at 6.30 and 7.30pm so guests can see exactly what a Poachers wedding looks, tastes and feels like.

“Guests will be able to taste a selection of canapés, try some Wily Trout wines and talk to the team about package options, available dates and special requests,” Matthieu says.

“There will also be the opportunity to meet some of Poachers’ recommended wedding suppliers of wedding accessories, flowers, decorations and make-up, music and accommodation in the area.”

Couples who choose Poachers Pantry as their wedding venue have two options for their reception: the marquee, which holds up to 200 guests, and the rustic smokehouse café, which can fit up to 100 guests to sit down or 150 people canapé style.

Matthieu says the marquee will be well-heated during the colder months to keep guests comfortable.

“The beauty about the marquee is it is a blank canvas and can be styled any way you want it, while the café, set in a restored weatherboard cottage, offers a smart yet casual country feel,” he says.

Couples can also opt to have their ceremony at Poachers Pantry, set amongst the lush gardens.

“Photographs can be taken in the paddocks and Wily Trout vineyard, along the stunning avenue of Poplar trees, on the Homestead lawn and in the cafe gardens,” Matthieu says.

“It’s certainly one of the most photogenic venues, for any season.”
