Seven cool benefits of a winter wedding
Posted on
If you’re getting married and mulling over which season to hold your big day, winter needn’t be an afterthought. Here are a few reasons to consider a winter wedding (coming first-hand from a winter bride.)
It’s cheaper
Because spring and summer are so busy, many venues offer discounts or are willing to negotiate on prices. (Which gives you the option to spend more on the honeymoon!)
You can have your pick of the dates
Want the most in-demand venue or photographer out there? As winter weddings are less common, it’s likely you’ll be able to nab your dream venue or wedding vendor – and since their schedule is likely to be relatively open, you won’t have to settle for a less-than-ideal wedding date.
Makeup and hair #onpoint
Unlike in the warmer months, your makeup won’t melt off, your hair won’t drop and the groomsmen won’t have sweat patches. (I’ve seen it at summer weddings and it ain’t pretty.) Plus, Canberra is known to have less rain in winter – June is the driest month – with plenty of crisp, clear and sunny days that will look beautiful on camera.
More ways to accessorise
Winter gives you a chance to add interesting elements to your styling – think a gorgeous faux fur coat, a dress with detailed sleeves, cashmere shrugs for the bridesmaids or scarves with suits for the groomsmen.
Creative styling
Think a cosy reception room full of candles, a roaring fireplace, rich florals, hearty food and good wine. You can even get playful with your menu choices, with a mulled wine stand or cider station.
Less declined RSVPs
There’s not as much on the social calendar in winter, so most of your guests will be available and looking forward to a celebration instead of fitting it in the usual hectic summer schedule.
More options for the honeymoon
Last but not least, you have more options to choose from for your honeymoon destination in winter, as it’s the European/US summer. Bon voyage!
