Touted by psephologist Malcolm Mackerras as the ACT’s next Liberal Chief Minister, Elizabeth Lee has…
As a young girl, Katie Shanahan used to collect ‘gold’ objects from around her house and squirrel them away beneath her bed.
Fast forward a few decades and Katie’s collection of gold treasures has multiplied exponentially—but they’re no longer hidden away.
An accomplished jeweller and silversmith who graduated from ANU’s School of Art, Katie’s childhood collection has fuelled a lifelong love affair with all things bright and shiny, culminating in a jewellery range that seeks to amplify the wearer’s femininity and elegance, creating heirlooms for generations to come.
Offering bespoke jewellery created in close consultation with the client, Katie creates rings, pendants, necklaces, bangles and earrings in a variety of styles, from strikingly modern to delicately vintage.
“I love the whole journey of a custom piece, the consult, the designing, finding the perfect stone, the making, the handover but most of all I just feel honoured to be a part of a journey that will last a lifetime or perhaps even longer,” says Katie.
Created in her Lyneham studio, Katie’s vision is rendered in bronze, silver, gold, pearls and responsibly sourced gemstones and precious stones.
“I draw a lot of my inspiration from antiquity jewellery, Greek, Etruscan, Medieval, Byzantine,” she says. “I marvel at what they could do with limited tooling!”
Katie is also able to re-invigorate inherited gems or family pieces, giving heirlooms a new life.
