The hoarding up of one of Canberra Centre’s most popular stores—Country Road—has made for a quiet first floor above the City Walk entrance in recent times.
Frankly, we’ve missed it.
Yet the sacrifice of the past few months will be rewarded today when the store hoardings come down to reveal a new store—one which sets a new benchmark for sustainable design in Canberra.
As part of Country Road’s bid to become a global leader in sustainability, the Canberra Centre store will target its second 5 Star Green Star Design Review rated store in Australia—following on from the company’s Victoria store last year.
Symbolising a new era of luxury, the store has been designed to enhance the customer experience at every level, while revitalising recycled materials into beautiful new store features.
The result is fixtures made from recycled yoghurt containers, carpet crafted from fishing nets and recycled paper wall cladding, to name a few.
Country Road Managing Director Elle Roseby said the opening of the Canberra Centre store is another step forward towards conscious store fit-outs and design for the brand.
She also thanked Canberrans for taking the brand to heart since it opened.
“The store has been among our most successful in Australia. We’re confident this trend will continue to grow once our customers get to experience the beautiful redesign. Locals can also take pride in the fact that Country Road Canberra is the first fashion retailer in the ACT to target a 5 Star Green Star Interiors rating.”

Launched in 1974 off the back of a classic white shirt, Country Road has evolved to become an iconic Australian lifestyle brand, operating stores across Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
In 2019, the brand launched Our World, a platform dedicated to sharing Country Road’s sustainability journey with the wider community, as well as recent campaigns featuring Traceable Merino Wool, Good Jeans and Recycled Nylon Swimwear.
The Canberra store took six months to come to life, featuring premium store fixtures including parquetry flooring reclaimed from old buildings; fitting room hooks revitalised from ocean plastic; child seating crafted from recycled plastic toys; fitting room curtains made from recycled polyester; store fixtures and tables crafted from recycled plastic; and luxurious wool wall hangings salvaged from leftover yarn.
The store will be the first fashion retail store in the ACT to target a 5 Star Green Star Interiors rating, awarded by the Green Building Council of Australia.

A 5 Star Green Star rating is a significant achievement and represents Australian Excellence in design and construction.”
The store also follows the 2015 launch of Country Road Group’s Logistics Omni Fulfillment Centre—a state-of-the-art warehouse facility in Australia which was awarded a 5 Star Green Star rating.
As sustainable fashion surges, County Road will continue to design more 5 Star Green Star stores in future, replicating the design features and materials of the Canberra store.
