It’s not often that parcels of land come up in Canberra’s sought-after suburb of Red Hill.
But The Parks, a joint development between award-winning development teams Stockland and DOMA, is creating a new and vibrant village precinct within the premier suburb. And a number of Canberrans are keen to make this postcode their own.
People such as Brendan and Lauren Irvine and their two sons, Harry, 12, and Cooper 10.
If anyone is in touch with the community of Red Hill, it is Brendan—he owns the independent supermarket there that has recently undergone a gourmet makeover.
“I absolutely love the suburb, and I love the community. I feel I live and breathe it at work, and now we want to move the family in so we are fully entrenched in Red Hill.”
Brendan, his wife, two sons, and three dogs, are trading in a 30-year-old large suburban home in Lyons—and all the maintenance involved with it—for a three-bedroom Terrace at The Parks.
“I knew what was planned at the development because I was involved in the community consultation, and it got us thinking about what a rare opportunity it was to actually get a foothold in this suburb.”
“We still will retain a backyard, which is important for the kids and the dogs, but we are genuinely looking forward to moving into something that is not only beautiful, set among six parks, but that will require absolutely minimum upkeep.”
Brendan also loved the concept of having a separate title, having been subject to “frustrating” body corporate rules and regulations in the past.

“For us, we look forward to raising our family here and then being able to stay on. It has all the right ingredients for us to stay as happy empty-nesters.”
The chance to build a dream home in a dream suburb
At the other end of the scale, Ivan Golem—at just 23—is making the decision to invest everything into building his dream home in Red Hill, the suburb he grew up in.
Coming from the Golem Group development family, Ivan has temporarily moved back in with his mum and dad, Susan and Zeljko, while he plans the finishing touches on a contemporary “forever” home designed by acclaimed Canberra architect Paul Tilse.
Ivan purchased a land parcel in The Parks and believes that in real estate: “location is everything”.
“Obviously we do a lot of work in new suburbs, but there are very few opportunities within a reasonable investment range to actually build your dream house in Red Hill. So, for me, I am returning to my roots and can’t wait to move in.”
Red Hill brought with it the proximity to boutique precincts and a range of shops and amenities, but The Parks provided residents with an interconnected community, where pedestrians had priority.
The development had defined entry points with feature materials while raised front courtyard beds provided privacy while maintaining a connection to the outside.
Ivan said the high calibre of the development partners Stockland and DOMA played a part in his decision to invest, and he also appreciated the guides to ensure the new builds melded into a cohesive vision for his soon-to-be home village.
“I’ve gone for something that is timeless and tried to avoid any of those fads in building that you see everywhere.”
