It’s a new era in fashion – there are no rules. It’s all about the…
Known for its leafy streets and community feel, Weetangera is one of Belconnen’s best-kept secrets.
Just 15 minutes from Canberra city, it’s the perfect choice for homebuyers seeking the benefits of quiet suburban living with the convenience of a central location.
And now modern and easy townhouse living has arrived in the form of Seven2Nine. Architecturally-designed by AMC Architecture and marketed by Luton Properties, this new development focuses on contemporary convenience, sustainability and low-maintenance design.
Seven2Nine is a boutique development of only 14 dwellings located on Smith Street close to the Hawker Shops. The project offers a variety of townhouse types, most with three large bedrooms, spacious north-facing living spaces, double garage accommodation and substantial private outdoor entertaining areas.
Alastair MacCallum, architect and Design Director of AMC, says Seven2Nine will sit comfortably in its corner of Smith Street while contributing positively to the Weetangera community.
“From my days studying Architecture at UNSW I have been interested in social cohesion, housing choice and creating community. However, at this point in time I believe that Canberra offers limited housing choice for those who may wish to downsize within their existing community, those who are looking for more affordable townhouse housing options or who prefer a lower maintenance lifestyle in inner suburbs such as Weetangera. We have achieved these outcomes with many other recent projects including the award-winning The Central at Crace and Denman Village Shops and look forward to the same outcome in Seven2Nine.”
“As a 1970s suburb, Weetangera is ideal for baby boomers looking to downsize and younger professionals looking to get into the housing market in a fabulous location.”
He was inspired by his experience living in Wybalena Grove in Cook, an innovative townhouse development designed by Michael Dysart in the 1970’s which has stood the test of time.
“I admired the understated, yet confident architectural character, excellent northern orientation and outlook and the strong sense of community. Seven2Nine has similar attributes on a smaller scale responding to its gently sloping site, its landscape setting and the excellent northern solar aspect all of which have informed the design concept.”
The masterplan of Seven2Nine is organised into three townhouse rows, each with their own clear address sense of privacy and outlook and with well-considered and generous private gardens.
The development includes four main dwelling types to suit different needs: six single-storey townhouses, two two-storey Accessible dwellings (which include their master bedroom at ground level), and six executive-style split-level townhouses with large north-facing private courtyards and an efficient internal circulation arrangement.
Interior features including efficient dwelling layouts with minimal corridors, flexible rooms, high raked ceilings over living areas, generous storage provision and well-appointed kitchens and wet areas which communicate Alastair’s design philosophy and attention to detail. When it comes to the exterior, Seven2Nine’s appearance is just as sophisticated.
“The design concept seeks to reiterate some of the more interesting characteristics of local housing in Weetangera in a contemporary way,” explains Alastair.
“Clean, simple roof lines that follow the fall of the site, attractive face brickwork incorporating natural tones and the use of natural timber elements embed the development comfortably in its surroundings.”
The development includes an integrated landscape concept designed by DSB Landscape Architects including shared gardens and a pedestrian path network without steps along with purpose-designed private courtyards for each dwelling type.
With convenient access to shops, public transport, schools, community facilities and playing fields, Seven2Nine has been thoughtfully developed to facilitate the sort of convenient lifestyle that Canberrans increasingly prefer.
