Street Stylin’

Just because the weather’s pretty ordinary doesn’t mean Canberrans don’t dress well. Rain, hail or shine the people of Canberra know fashion… We hit the streets to suss out their style, finding everything from vintage prints to knitted scarves and textured coats…
Bryden, Hawker
“I’m a little bit of a tomboy some of the time with jumpers, but mostly my style is casual. I’m not a very colourful person. I mostly wear grey, navy, black and white and stick to those minimal colours in my wardrobe. This top is as much colour that you’ll see from me.”
Deborah, Perth
“I’m currently in Canberra from Perth for a conference. My style is colourfully eclectic. I love wearing this scarf because it was knitted by Mum for me and these earrings because they were a present from my husband.”
Russell, New Acton
“I’m not really paying attention to style at the moment, just wearing what’s comfortable for Uni.”
Leanne, Fadden
“It’s casual Friday! I usually wear a lot of black and grey in my Monday to Thursday work wear, so on Fridays it’s good to add a splash of colour. I like to shop in Cue for my corporate wear.”
James, Red Hill
“Today’s look is smart casual. I like to wear semi formal jackets and scarves for winter wear and it’s Friday so of course I’m wearing jeans. This [scarf] is a Salvos job that I got for a couple dollars, I should probably shop there more often. I headed there with a mate, found this gem and decided to buy a cheap scarf.”
Heidi, Captains Flat
“My style is vintage and a bit boho. That’s why I like this skirt because it looks a bit art deco. I like wearing bold prints to brighten up work outfits and love a bright lip! I like collecting lots of different printed pieces that you can put together and that don’t date which builds a timeless wardrobe.”
Fiona, Chapman
“I bought this coat in Braddon from itrip iskip and I’ve had it for a couple of years – it’s much loved. I don’t do a whole lot of shopping but I like to shop local and I get stuff I like and wear it forever.”
James, Downer
“This is me, this is my work get up which is cold and practical. I’m not trying to be fashionable, this is me trying to keep warm outside in Canberra.”
