Thrive Through Change: The event re-writing what midlife looks like for Canberra women
Posted on
Amid the onslaught of wellness and hormone advice found on algorithms and search engines, one Canberra event is cutting through the noise to empower local women* to navigate perimenopause, menopause and beyond.
Thrive Through Change – a multidisciplinary, expert-led seminar – is coming to the Boathouse on Wednesday 20 May to bring clarity, reassurance and practical tools to help navigate hormonal change with confidence.
Designed for women experiencing perimenopause, menopause or post-menopause – as well as anyone who loves, lives with or works alongside them – the event was created by Skin Wellness Academy founder Kim Le Sambolec.
“As a skin specialist, I see every day that the skin reflects what’s happening internally in the body. Hormones, gut health, stress and lifestyle all show up on the skin,” she says.
“I’m also a 44-year-old woman navigating perimenopause myself while running a growing business and raising children. Like many women, I’m learning that this stage of life requires the right support, knowledge and practitioners around you.”
That’s why she gathered an expert panel of women.
Including the founder of Synergie Skin Terri Vinson Jones, GP and founder of Queenbee Women’s Health Dr Jeannie Ellis, founder of the Seed Cycle Mel Kovacevic, and Naturopath and Menopause Guide Brenda Rogers, they will help attendees understand the physical, emotional and psychological changes of midlife hormones.
“I felt a responsibility to bring together a panel of experts from different fields – medical, hormonal, nutritional, wellness and lifestyle – so women could access trusted information in one place and better understand what is happening in their bodies,” explains Kim.
“My hope is that women leave the event feeling empowered, informed and supported, with practical tools and connections to professionals who can help them feel well again.”
Touching on everything from hormone education to nutrition and supplement guidance, emotional resilience strategies, movement advice and nervous system regulation tools, Thrive Through Change is about so much more than education.
Along with the chance to network with specialised practitioners (and ask questions), the day will also include a guided breathwork and journaling session, a mini wellness market and a curated goodie bag to take home.
Complete with a light lunch, refreshments and sunset cocktails, Kim also wants to use the event to build a community.
And with 100 per cent of the proceeds raised from the event – including from lucky door prizes and a silent auction – to be donated to the Tarrant Foundation, Thrive Through Change is ultimately about uplifting women.
“The Tarrant Foundation is a charity very close to my heart that supports women and children in our community who need it most,” says Kim.
“At its core, Thrive Through Change is about community, education and empowerment.”
Running from 10 am until 4.30 pm, Kim is excited to help give women the knowledge they need. Hoping to change the conversation around perimenopause and beyond, she wants to reframe midlife as “a new chapter of strength.”
As Kim puts it: “If I’m going to transition through midlife, I’d like to do it feeling vibrant, healthy… and ideally without the pimples.”
