Which Canberra picnic outfit are you?

Posted on

As Canberrans prepare to re-enter into socially distanced society with picnics, fun with four friends is back on the agenda.

Across the region, wardrobes are being rummaged in hopes the warm weather lasts and patches of grass are being scoured for the perfect two-hour lunch spot.

While fashion isn’t at the forefront of our minds during lockdown, in honour of the chance to bust out a new shirt and a pair of pants that haven’t been seen pre-lockdown, we’ve put together four Canberra-themed picnic outfits inspired by local designers.

Important: There are ACT Government directives around how far you can travel from your house when undertaking recreational activities.  If you are spending time outside with members of your household or up to four other people, you should also stay within your region if at all possible.

Canberrans are also asked to ensure they maintain physical distancing wherever practicable. Please see covid19.act.gov.au for more information

Floriade Cottagecore

We know. Florals for spring? Groundbreaking. While the season of flowers usually means a trip to see the tulips at Australia’s Biggest Celebration of Spring, this year the festival has been cancelled.

As an obvious choice for picnics, this year why not wrap yourself in a floral ensemble to set the mood and bring a little bit of Floriade fun to your outdoor outing? Think Cottagecore meets flower power with flowy skirts, big hats, sweet sleeves combined in a wearable spring aesthetic.

While their lanyard may be forever around their neck, the casual stylings of public servants aren’t to be ignored. As we bust out of the office (read: the lounge room) collared shirts layered with sweet summer dresses or culotte pants and comfy sneakers are the perfect way to up-style a relaxing afternoon of social distancing. Remember that picnics and linen always go hand in hand and make sure to match your laptop bag to your outfit.

The Coconut Canberra Girl

The beach might be two hours (and a border closure) away, but the Coconut Canberra Girl is reminiscent of early 2000’s summer beach style and the epitome of sunshine. To get the look, pull out pastel bucket hats, baby t-shirts, bead and shell jewellery or colourful crop tops.

For a more sensible approach to a temperamental Canberra spring day, bring along your Kathmandu puffer jacket for when the sun disappears behind the clouds and the temperature drops ten degrees.

The Comfy Ken Behren

Classic, practical and comfortable, this Ken Behren knows that casual style and cosiness goes hand in hand during a pandemic. Walking around Lake Burley Griffin, KeepCup in hand, the classic style notes include mum jeans or bike shorts paired with a graphic t-shirt and Converse sneakers.

With wearable Canberra pride on the rise, why not invest in a Ken Behren t-shirt to keep the vibes chill as you dig into a well-deserved charcuterie board? City pride never tasted so good.
