Head designer for Perri Cutten Penelope Loorham is excited to discuss some of the directions in which she has taken the fashion house’s iconic winter coat range.

She believes in a climate such as Canberra’s, a functional winter coat is de rigueur for comfort when not even the most hardy of businesswomen can make it from the car to the office without adequate cover – preferably with more than a hint of mohair.

But Penelope also sees the chilliest season as an opportunity for fashionable women to update their wardrobes with a jacket that offers “a strong colour, or a sharp, modern silhouette or a detail such as military”. That drab outfit you put on this morning? Who notices it under a superb coat?

Perri Cutten’s 2017 coat collection has considerable variety, according to the seasoned designer.

“There are strong colours like Bright Pink, Tangelo Orange, Bright Blue, then interesting detail fabrics such as checks and surface interest.”

Another option is to choose from the collection’s much softer palette “including Winter White, Pale Blue and Marle Charcoal, but never forgetting classic colours, red, black and navy.”

Penelope notes that the silhouettes are particularly strong this winter and there is a variety of ways a customer can create a different look.
