Celebrate Santa’s arrival at Canberra Centre

Posted on

Santa’s back, and he’s bringing a touch of glam.

This weekend, for the first time in almost a decade, Santa will land his sleigh at Canberra Centre in an enchanted garden complete with gold reindeer, magical trees, twinkling fairy lights and luxe red velvet chairs.

Located outside David Jones on the ground floor, a huge celebration is planned on Saturday 10 November to welcome Santa back to the centre, with pop-up entertainment, Christmas treats and kids’ activities.

“Starting at 9 am we invite our community to join us in welcoming Santa, with a very special ballet recital of The Nutcracker planned as well as a selection of delicious Christmas treats for those who attend,” Canberra Centre Senior Marketing Manager Kelly McGufficke says.

Santa’s Enchanted Garden will be open for Santa photos every day until Christmas Eve, with an online booking system available for those wanting to fast-track the queue.

In addition to Santa’s return, Canberra Centre is planning plenty of activities for kids of all ages throughout the Christmas period.

“As part of festivities planned for Canberra’s CBD, we’re excited to be working closely with the City Renewal Authority on their plans to enliven the centre of Canberra to celebrate the festive season, including the wonderful new ‘Merry and Bright – Christmas in Civic’ event, which includes long table dinners, Christmas movie nights and breakfast with Santa,” Kelly says.

There will also be plenty of other exciting events in store at Canberra Centre, including a festive table styling workshop on Saturday 24 November hosted by top3 by Design’s Terri Winter, who will be sharing her expert tips on creating three different table styling options for Christmas lunch or dinner.

For those who like their Christmas with a side of bubbly, The Champagne Dame will be returning on Sunday 2 December for another enticing masterclass which will explore the link between champagne and perfume.

“This event is a decadent sensory experience and has been a sell-out in previous years, and tickets are limited so be sure to get in quickly,” Kelly says.

Canberra Centre will be offering extended opening hours from Saturday 8 December until Christmas Eve for Christmas shoppers. A gift-wrapping bar will also be available for a gold coin donation from 10 December, with the proceeds going towards Red Nose, a charity dedicated to saving the lives of babies and children during pregnancy, infancy and childhood and supporting bereaved families.
