If you can keep your hand on this car the longest—it’ll be yours

Who wants to win a brand new car? You, of course! Who wouldn’t?!

Well, with many thanks to the Tiny’s Car Challenge everyone is able to enter the competition to do just that.

The Domestic Violence Crisis Service has partnered with Goran “Tiny” Srejic as part of the Tiny’s Car Challenge.

It’s a pretty simple concept really, just raise as much money as you can for DVCS and if you are one of the top 20 overall fundraisers (including other charities), you’ll be invited to place your hand on the car.

If you are the last person standing, you’re taking home this brand new car—a white Volkswagon POLO 2020 70 TSI Trendline, 5 Seed Manual, including 12 months registration (ACT or NSW), compulsory third party insurance, stamp duty and dealer delivery charges ready to drive away, valued at $22,199.

“As we understand, this event has not been done in Australia before,” says organiser, Goran Srejic, also more affectionately known as ‘Tiny’.

“We are hoping to raise over $1million for all the charities involved. We know many charities have been significantly impacted by the bushfires and now COVID. We want to encourage people who would not normally fundraise to get involved and to thank them by providing them all with the opportunity to take home a brand new car!”

DVCS Community Development and Engagement Manager Alanna Davis says that the fundraiser will be a welcome relief in what is turning out to be a shocker of a year for charities.

“We are so excited to be involved in this very unique and exciting event. We know we have plenty of very capable fundraisers who support us year in and year out. We can’t wait to see how creative they get with their fundraising.”

“We had to cancel our major fundraising activity, our Gala Ball which was scheduled for May due to COVID.  The Canberra Running Festival was moved from April to August and now to November, and the amount we have been able to fundraise from that was also significantly lower than usual. Both events were too close to the bush fires and during the peak of COVID restrictions being enforced.”

How does it work

Step One: Jump on Tiny’s website via this link and register your details.

Step Two: On 1 August you will receive your unique fundraising page with MyCause.

Step Three: Raise as much money as you can between 1 and midnight 21 August 2020 via your allocated fundraising page.

Step Four: The top 20 overall fundraisers will come along to the Canberra Outlet Centre at 10am on Thursday 3 September 2020, place their hand on one of three cars (for social distancing purposes).

Step Five: The last one standing takes home the car.  The second last one standing takes home $5,000 cash.

“This is open to all our regular fundraisers and to anyone new to DVCS who enjoys a challenge,” says Alanna. “People can fundraise however they want. This might include making a cash donation themselves, seeking financial support from family and friends, hosting their own raffle or another COVID-compliant activity.”

“People can be as creative as they want. Thank you to Tiny and Elaine for their support of our community, it’s really important for us to all stick together during times like these. We are really grateful for the opportunity to be part of this Australian first and can’t wait to see how it all turns out.”

So if you think you’ve got what it takes to stand with your hand on a car in order to take it home, then get yourself registered and start planning how to fundraise!

Remember—fundraising must occur between 1 August and 21 August 2020.
