Another free (and effective) home workout

When you think about physical activity, do you think of structured exercise at the gym, or going for a run?

The hard slog? Sweat? If the word “exercise” feels like a chore for you, maybe we need to rethink our perception?

“Exercise” isn’t the only way to be active. “Incidental movement” is incredibly powerful for your health and wellbeing too. While it is recommended that you do 150 minutes of physical activity each week, you can break this down into multiple shorter sessions—something is better than nothing.

Did you know just five mins of moderate exercise can create a mood-enhancement effect?

Throughout September, Her Canberra have been releasing a Spring Workout for inspo. However, if that’s not your jam, maybe incidental movement is more effective for you?

Think:

  • Gardening to your favourite radio station.
  • Cleaning the house to music.
  • Jumping on the trampoline with the kids.
  • Taking the stairs at work.
  • Running for the tram.

The best advice I can give you, is to be active in as many ways as you can throughout the day. Every little bit counts. It takes 21 days to form a habit, and 90 days to change your lifestyle. Choose to move!

Physiologically, we’re designed to move. The key is being organised.

If you are into setting up your mat and your dumbbells (or any equipment that you can find), here’s your Spring Workout session (you can print the PDF here):

  • Single leg body hinge
  • Clam shells
  • Hamstring walkout
  • Plank to push-up

If you can’t do these exercises, you’re welcome to write to me, and I can modify the movements for you: kirra@capitalhydrotherapy.com.au

How can you increase your incidental movement today?

Love, Kirra
