Four waterside bars to try this weekend
Posted on
When the weather warms up, there’s nothing quite like being by the water with a drink in hand.
And while Canberra was admittedly lacking in waterside bars for some time, it’s recently had a welcome burst of venues that make up for lost time. So make the most of the weather this weekend with these relaxed waterside venues.
The Jetty

This revamped waterfront bar and beer garden has recently re-opened and is already set to be a firm favourite come summer. Making the most of its proximity to Lake Burley Griffin, the venue has a relaxed atmosphere, with live music from Thursday to Sunday and a menu filled with delicious cocktails, Aperol Spritz, Bentspoke beers, Fricken Chicken and tacos from Mr Rocket. (Also keep an eye out nearby for the new French-inspired lakeside bar Margot, which is opening this summer.)

Snapper & Co.

The Courtyard Bar at Snapper & Co.
If you find yourself naturally craving fish and chips when by the water, you’re in luck. The newly reopened downstairs area of the Canberra Southern Cross Yacht Club at Yarralumla now features The Deck at Snapper & Co., with glorious lake views. Snapper & Co.’s existing courtyard area has also been given a makeover, featuring the Container Bar, a gelato bar, a casual dining menu and unrivalled views. As well as Snapper & Co’s famed fresh fish and chips, an expanded menu also boasts burgers, salads, tasting platters and more.

If you want to be right by the water but still want to catch that game, The Dock on the Kingston Foreshore is your answer. With a covered outdoor area, multiple HD screens, a hearty menu and even extras like a free bus to the Brumbies, The Dock aims to go the extra mile for sports fans.

The Lighthouse

Perhaps Belco’s answer to The Dock, The Lighthouse (fondly known as The Lighty) has a loyal following for good reason. Looking over Lake Ginninderra, it’s had a bit of a spruce up by its new owners in recent years, but still boasts the basics which make it great: live music, delicious food, big screens and multiple beers on tap.
