This productivity event is the easiest way to make progress on your side project

Are you one of the thousands of Canberrans with a side project?

Maybe you’re writing a novel, creating a personal website or selling cross stitch on Etsy. Perhaps you’ve turned your side hustle into your full-time gig and now spend your time balancing freelance jobs.

Maybe you’ve just had a project in mind for a while or a task you need to get finished, like a refreshed resumé, a clean inbox or even a letter of resignation.

No matter what you’re keen to crack into, we can all agree that it’s a struggle to find the right time and headspace in which to do it.

This procrastination is why Founder of Keep Co CBR co-working space in Fyshwick Anna Trundle created 57:17 Sessions, a simple three-hour monthly productivity session to help kickstart whatever you might be working on.

“The sessions start with some housekeeping so you know where to find the coffee and bathrooms and how to log into the WiFi before commencing with 52 minutes of heads-down focused work, followed by 17 minutes of break to recharge, socialise or refuel with drinks and snacks,” explains Anna.

“Rinse and repeat three times and if all goes according to plan, you’ll walk away with a shorter to-do list and some fresh inspiration and motivation for whatever you’ve been working on.”

Kicking off at 10 am this Sunday 23 April at Keep Co’s slick Fyshwick space, 52:17 also boasts bottomless coffee, tea and snacks for maximum productivity. Essentially—grab a cup of something hot, sit down and get stuck in.

A graphic designer and paper crafter herself, Anna says that magic happens when you’re surrounded by like-minded people.

“Self-doubt, procrastination, not enough time, needing to do the laundry–there are plenty of blocks to starting your side project, creative idea, or even that bunch of life-admin that continues to fall to the bottom of the to-do list.”

“52:17 offers an antidote: time, accountability and quiet to help you do the task you’ve been putting off, big or small.”

“On Sunday we’ll hit the timer for a magical 52 minutes of heads-down focused work, then step away for a 17-minute break full of snacks, chats and caffeine—as it should be.”

Anna also notes this event is open to everyone—and not just for those looking to find like-minded folk.

“This isn’t a networking event—we’re introvert-friendly and you’re absolutely welcome to show up, get stuff done and head home without a word,” she says.

“But if you’re looking for an opportunity to get to know some new faces, then the breaks are a great time to meet some folks and have a chat.”

With free WiFi, sit or stand desks with ergonomic and fully adjustable chairs, powerpoints, and bottomless tea, coffee and snacks on offer, 52:17 follow a structured and effective formula—timed sessions of 52 minutes of quiet productivity followed by breaks of 17 minutes to refuel, relax and chat with fellow attendees.

Don’t think you have a project or task worthy of the event? Check your to-do list and you may be surprised.

“Novels, job applications, assignments, photo editing, website building, embroidery, sketching, reading, blogging, catching up on emails…what you work on is entirely up to you and there’s no pressure to talk about your work if you don’t want to,” says Anna.

“52:17 Sessions is distraction-free time, bottomless snacks and drinks to keep the momentum going and a pleasant environment to quietly chip away at your project with like-minded creatives by your side”.
