Peonee

When you have a special occasion and some money to spare, the dining experience at Peonee is a must-try.

Serving only a luxurious five-course tasting menu (with the option of matching wines or non-alcoholic beverages, depending on your preference), this small venue has an elegant, industrial feel and offers a very intimate experience.

Start the evening off by being personally welcomed by the owner (who also serves as the sommelier) and watch the chefs work in an open kitchen, an experience that adds an element of theatricality to the night.

With no formal menu – it’s presented to you at the end of the night along with your check – you’re left to enjoy each Mod Oz dish exactly as it is.

A killer location combined with the amazing cuisine from an award-winning chef – Louis has it all. This is the perfect pick if you’re looking for a menu that will transport you from the hustle and bustle of the Parliamentary Triangle to the middle of a classic European bistro.

With a menu bursting with a light, bright version of French cuisine and an extensive wine list, did we mention that it’s romantic, moody, and incredibly luxurious?

Since its opening in 2021, Japanese restaurant Mu Omakase has quickly become a must-visit for serious diners looking for a unique experience – and it’s a one-hat restaurant that turns fine dining on its head.

Offering a fusion of Kaiseki, Robatayaki, and Omakase dining experiences (with a twist), diners are taken on an unforgettable journey through 12 courses, but it’s worth noting that Mu is about more than a good meal.

Perfect for date night (if there’s ever a lull in conversation you can both watch in awe as the Chef makes the next mouth-watering dish right in front of you), a special event, or a treat-yourself night out in the heart of Canberra’s city, dining at Mu will change how you look at, and enjoy food.

Inari

Eating at Inari can only be described as an elevated experience – and with traditional Japanese dishes fused with modern flavour taking centre stage (all centred around locally sourced seafood), booking in here is sure to impress.

Borrowing its namesake from the Japanese ‘god of rice’, Inari is the signature restaurant of Tiger Lane’s own ‘Sushi Shaman’, Shaun Presland and heroes dishes like Quail Kara-age (an adult’s version of chicken Kara-age of butterflied whole quail, in a buttermilk marinade) and the glacier 51 Miso Tooth-fish, which has been sustainably caught from Antarctica, marinated for two days in a traditional old-school Saikyo miso paste from Kyoto and grilled until golden brown and crisp on the edges.

Unexpected, unique, and delicious, it’s the perfect chance to dive into the vibrant flavours of Japan.

Located in the stunning Pialligo enclave, Beltana Farm is an oasis for those looking to escape the CBD. Home to 800 truffle trees and luxe accommodation (including some charming yurts), it’s already making waves in Canberra – but it’s the restaurant that’s well worth booking into.

Complete with vaulted timber-lined ceilings, views of truffle trees outside, and an enormous stone fireplace inside (perfect for a cosy night out in winter), the food is thoughtful, simple, share-plate style – and bursts, freshness, and execution.

Perfect to unwind and savour special moments, it’s memorable for more than one reason.
