Prinnie sings the Blues at Street Theatre
Posted on
Prinnie Stevens has created a show to explore and honour the history of women in music with the fan favourite part two of her acclaimed show, touring nationally.
This follows on from fans and critics alike loving her successful first show that ran at the Adelaide Fringe for over a year in 2021-22.
Now, the powerhouse singer is back with volume 2, promising an even more exhilarating and breath-taking journey through the history of music we know today, shaped by legendary women using their pain, struggle, and joy to create the long-awaited volume 2 which will be touring nationally.
Prinnie is no stranger to the Australian public eye, first making her appearance as a backing singer in the ‘The Voice’, later auditioning in 2012 and again in 2019 when she captivated all around with her euphonious voice.
Her love for singing is in her blood, passed down from her mother, who is from Tonga, a country where singing and dancing is just a part of life.
By age 13, Prinnie got signed to Sony Music, and by 17, had a number of awards under her belt. Yet, so constrained was the music industry in the 1990’s, Prinnie didn’t feel her music represented who she really was.
Through an inspiring journey to find her voice, she created ‘Lady Sings the Blue’— a journey in which she discusses her mental health, breaks down barriers for women and hopefully, inspires her nieces, her girls, and her community.
Drawing inspiration from songstresses, such as Beyoncé and Miahalia Jackson, the show is based on a powerhouse line-up of strong women who changed the music industry, including Whitney Houston, Tina Turner, Nina Simone, and many more.
Following sold-out performances at the Sydney Festival and receiving the prestigious Cabeart of the Week Award at the Perth World Fringe, Lady Sings The Blues Volume 2 continued its triumphant run at the Adelaide Fringe.
Markus Hamence of [Mark Your Review] hailed Prinnie’s performance as “a masterclass in emotional storytelling”.
“Each note that she sang carried the weight of each artist,” said Anastasia Lmbis of HiFiWay.
Lady Sings the Blues Volume 2 promises an unforgettable evening of music, emotion, and pays homage to the women who have shaped the musical landscape.
Prinnie masters pop, gospel, theatre, soul, and R&B which all come together in a performance that should not be missed.
