When Housewives Meet Drag Queens: Reality TV crossover comes to the Canberra stage
Posted on
Two reality TV juggernauts are joining forces this July as Goudie Events presents Bring Back My Wives.
This high-energy production brings together the drama of The Real Housewives with the artistry of RuPaul’s Drag Race for what’s being called a “first-of-its-kind crossover show.”
The concept is pretty clever when you think about it. Bring Back My Wives creates a fully immersive and interactive experience where housewives’ confessionals meet drag performances, and audience members become part of the action rather than passive observers.
It’s an interesting pairing. Two reality TV franchises that have genuinely shaped popular culture – The Real Housewives with its 31 global versions and RuPaul’s Drag Race spanning 16 international editions – sharing the same stage for the first time.

The lineup brings together some well-known faces. Teresa Giudice from The Real Housewives of New Jersey and Whitney Rose from The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City headline alongside drag performers Laganja Estranja, Ashley Madison, Luxx Noir London, and Eureka O’Hara.
The format sounds wildly entertaining. The evening opens with a drag group number, followed by solo performances from each queen. The standout element might just be the unfiltered on-the-couch Q&A session hosted by Australian media personality Justin Hill, where housewives and drag performers share the spotlight in what should make for some interesting conversation.

Ashley Madison, who appeared on Drag Race Down Under.
Ashley Madison, who appeared on Drag Race Down Under, says “I’ve toured the world, but seen nothing like this. It’s the kind of show that keeps audiences on their toes and screaming for more.” The interactive elements are designed to involve the audience directly, with competitions, games, and what they’re calling “The Superfan Showdown” as the finale.
What’s interesting about this production is how it brings together two forms of entertainment that, while different, share some common ground. Both The Real Housewives and RuPaul’s Drag Race celebrate bold personalities and aren’t afraid of a bit of drama. The Real Housewives, which started in 2006, turned ordinary women into television personalities, while RuPaul’s Drag Race, beginning in 2009, brought drag culture into mainstream entertainment.

Executive Producer Mark Wittikens calls it “theatrical gold” and “pure brilliance in motion.” The show includes other elements like a performance by a local artist, a dance troupe, and various audience participation segments throughout the evening.
The production represents something fairly unique in live entertainment – a crossover that takes two established television formats and adapts them for the stage. For one night, the Hellenic Club of Canberra becomes the setting for this experiment in reality TV meets live performance.
Whether you’re drawn to the housewives’ drama or the drag queens’ artistry, Bring Back My Wives offers something that feels fresh in the entertainment landscape. It’s the kind of show that could become a talking point simply because it’s doing something different.
