Yes, Yo-Chi is coming to Canberra but our city’s frozen yoghurt scene is already pretty cool (sorry)

Warning: you will be craving frozen yoghurt after reading this.

Canberra is home to an amazing food scene that we’ve said time and time again rivals the likes of Sydney and Melbourne. And with the announcement of Yo-Chi’s impending arrival, we thought it was a good time to look at Canberra’s frozen yoghurt scene.

Ranging from local businesses at the top of the frozen yoghurt game to Australia’s first totally gluten-free yoghurt bar, here’s where you can cure your craving.

Fricken (City)

Fricken is so much more than fried chicken. Opening its biggest Canberra store yet, the Canberra-born brand is ruffling feathers with the announcement they will also be launching what they believe is Australia’s first fully gluten-free self-serve frozen yoghurt bar.

While we’re still waiting on the details (like what flavours and toppings will be available), we predict this will become a popular place to roost.

A premium self-serve frozen yoghurt and açaí experience, Yo-Bar was founded in Melbourne in 2023 and has quickly become one of Australia’s fastest-growing dessert brands – and it’s coming to the Canberra Centre!

Frozen yoghurt lovers can look forward to a highly customisable experience with 10 bases and over 60 toppings – including warm sauces, lollies and seasonal fruit – to choose from. There will also be vegan, gluten-free, kosher and halal-friendly options!

Moo Moo Frozen Yoghurt (Braddon and Gungahlin)

Serving a signature blend of premium flavours (as well as a few specials), Moo Moo’s choices range from chocolate to Crème Brulee, with most of them marked as gluten-free, halal and Kosher. The fruit flavours are made with real fruit, and the Moo Moo Classic is 95 per cent fat free – perfect for justifying your dessert choice (not that you need too).

As for the toppings? Think fresh fruit, crushed Oreos, Tim Tams and cookies, lollies, nuts, wafers, brownie and popping Boba. Make sure to finish off your creation with a swirl of sauce (strawberry, peanut butter, salted caramel, pistachio…the list goes on).

Yogurberry (Phillip and Belconnen)

Live in Belconnen or Phillip? Yogurberry is your closest frozen yoghurt bar. Like Yo-Chi, it has a self-serve approach so you can load up your bowl with whatever sweet combination your heart desires.

Base flavours include peach, passionfruit, taro, cookies ‘n’ cream, salted caramel and Biscoff – simply choose your toppings, load up your bowl and enjoy. Made fresh daily, just don’t blame us if it becomes your new addiction.

Goodberry’s (Erindale, Franklin, and Belconnen)

Technically, Goodberry’s is frozen custard, not yoghurt, but it’s close enough, right? First opening in 1998 in Erindale, Goodberry’s has long been an icon of Canberra’s dessert scene.

Making all their custard bases fresh in store with milk, eggs, cream, pure cane sugar and honey, what makes it so good is there’s no artificial flavours, chemical fillers or stabilisers – just pure goodness.

Build your own (base options include vanilla, chocolate or the flavour of the week) or let them to do the hard work for you by choosing from one of their speciality Concrete offerings. The best part? You can order online so you can skip the queue.
