Eat Well Wednesday: The healthiest things you can do in 2015

Posted on

It’s almost a new year. I sense newness, the promise of fresh beginnings. It’s almost like poetry.

Is it on your radar to shake up the old eating habits and give them a makeover? If yes, then I’d love to see you adopt some of these as part of your 2015 healthy eating mantra.

Eat more vegetables EVERY day

Eat them whole,

eat them raw;

eat them cooked,

they’re not a bore.

Eat your fruit whole most of the time

Grab an apple for the trip,

grab a banana forget the ‘Split’;

Munch on berries, chew on grapes

use your teeth, just like the apes.

Eat foods that have been minimally processed

Some food comes straight from the farmer,

this kind you cannot beat.

Not everything wrapped in packaging

is healthy for you to eat.

Enjoy your food and don’t feel guilty over your food choices

Remember food is fun, pleasurable and nice;

heaven isn’t open just for kale eaters and the like.

Be mindful with your choices,

enjoy every single bite;

life’s too short to wonder

if everything you did was right.

Be organised and prepared

Healthy food is special,

it needs tender loving care.

Shop, store and prepare it

so the nourishment is always there.

Planning is an investment,

paying healthy dividends;

even when you’re busy

nutritious food will always be your friend.

Teach yourself new food preparation and cooking skills

Do you know what healthy food is?

Does nutrition info fill your brain?

What’s the point of all this knowledge

If you can’t put a healthy meal on your plate?

Get good advice from qualified individuals if you’re struggling

Food is very personal,

what you eat is close to your heart;

not every thing that Google says

is considered very smart.

Seek out a good nutritionist

with a qualification such as mine;

a dietitian with the letters ‘APD’

will also be just fine.

The nutritionists and dietitians at The Healthy Eating Hub can help you with any of your nutrition questions or queries and set you off on a great start to 2015. Happy New Year!
