Local Loves: Century Strength and Conditioning

Posted on

Having a degree in burpees is something many fitness lovers and instructors might boast about, but it’s no joke to Head Coach Steve Bingley, who submitted his master’s thesis on this exact topic last year.

When he’s not researching or consulting, Steve pours his love of scientifically-based training into Century Strength and Conditioning, which he runs alongside wife Mellita.

Pre-COVID, you could find Steve and Mellita running outdoor bootcamps in Woden and Gungahlin with their team of qualified coaches, however, due to their early interest into app-based training, pivoting during COVID was easier than, well, a burpee.

Century’s dedicated community of athletes spent their shutdown working out virtually alongside Steve and Mellita’s real family—their kids watching on in the family’s living room.

While Century is now back to running their regular outdoor bootcamps, their App continues to support the community and provide options for training at home with all current bootcamp athletes receiving FREE access to their Remote Training App, worth $39 per month.

Every four weeks the app provides 16 new home workouts with mindfulness inclusions that can be done anywhere, anytime without equipment or experience.

For those ready to make a group fitness comeback, Century runs outdoor bootcamp sessions nine times a week at both Woden and Gungahlin, with morning and evening sessions.

“Our outdoor bootcamp is known for its science-based and results-driven programming that is delivered in a supportive and structured way,” explains Mellita.

“Our team of coaches are extremely knowledgeable and educated and our community of athletes (you!) are diverse, incredibly motivating, and inspiring to train with.”

COVID-safe measures have been put in place to ensure participant safety, including maintaining strict class sizes and physical distancing, no direct contact with other participants and bodyweight only workouts in-lieu of equipment.

“Fortunately for us, we are lucky to have huge training grounds in Woden and Gungahlin that provide a scenic and safe space to provide group training,” adds Mellita.
