We need your help to get Canberra ACTIVE

Calling Canberra’s health and fitness providers – we want to get ACTIVE with you!

My experience with the Canberra sport and fitness community has been nothing short of life-changing.

Since I joined the HerCanberra team five years ago writing fitness articles and road tests, it’s an area where I’ve made many close friends, learnt from some seriously knowledgeable and inspiring individuals, and had some amazing experiences.

I’ve been forced out of my comfort zone (in a good way), achieved things I never thought possible and grown as a human being – with the encouragement and support of the people and businesses that make up that community.

At HerCanberra, it’s been a pleasure to hear and publish the stories of the fitness instructors, trainers, coaches and athletes who are making a difference to the lives of Canberra women.

Last week, we officially launched ACTIVE – a section of our website developed in partnership with the ACT Government which focusses on health and fitness, with a specific aim to increase female participation in sport and recreation.

Since then, we’ve had a groundswell of support from individuals and businesses asking one question.

“How can I get involved?”

I’m so glad that you asked.

Firstly, you can get yourself a free listing on our Directory, so that Canberra women can find you in a heartbeat. You can also let us know what you have going on – whether that’s an open day, community event or fundraiser – and we’ll provide you a dedicated event page in our What’s On section, complete with details of what, when, where and more – plus priority listing in our very popular event round up articles, at no cost.

We will, however, ask you a favour.

To launch ACTIVE, we’re throwing a week-long health and fitness party from the 13th-19th of November that we’re calling ACTIVE Week – and we’d really like for you to be involved.

What is ACTIVE Week?

It’s a week where we’re teaming up with sporting groups and health and fitness providers to encourage Canberra women to get active in whatever way they choose – whether that’s trying basketball for the first time, taking a dance class, or joining other mums for a walk about the lake with their prams.

We’re asking you, sporting groups and health and fitness providers, to give our readers the opportunity to participate in an activity for free during ACTIVE Week.

From our readers’ perspective, it’s a chance to try a new sport, class or activity at no cost, without the hassle of finding friends to come along or mustering the courage to go it alone. It’s taking the intimidation factor out of trying something new, because we’re all in it together.

What’s in it for you?

The chance to put yourself in from of our audience of 125,000 unique readers a month—most of whom are Canberra women between 20 and 45.

We want as many women in Canberra to get active—with you. We want them to fall in love with a new way of moving their body, or an old, forgotten favourite.

We want them to sweat, have fun, and connect with themselves, each other, and you.

Sound good?

Great. All you have to do to get involved is let us know what kind of opportunity you’d like to offer. It could be anything, including:

  • Staging a free ‘come and try’ session/s for your sport or activity
  • Providing a free class pass
  • Offering a free trial
  • Anything else that gives people a chance to get active in a low risk and accessible environment.

You’ll be responsible for the organisation and running the event, and the receipt of registrations –helping you to connect with Canberra women.

Then all you need to do is send the details to us, and we’ll tell people about it!

If you want to be involved but you’re just not quite sure how, drop me a line and we’ll work with you to come up with something that’s right for your business.
