If there’s ever been a year that people are in desperate need of rest and rejuvenation, it’s 2020.
Bushfires, drought, record job losses and a global pandemic have already been thrown at us—and we’re still not quite into September. It’s likely most of us have reached our “burnt out” stage much earlier than usual.
So how do we rest and recover from it all when so many travel restrictions are still in place? Well, we may just have found the antidote to the year that wasn’t.
While a health retreat in Thailand might be off the cards for now, one of the southern highlands’ most relaxing retreats is just under a two-hour drive from Canberra (and in a COVID-safe area to boot).
Located in Bundanoon, Solar Springs Retreat is a little oasis set in an idyllic 1920s guest house, where guests can put their feet up, clear their mind and recharge their batteries, all to a backdrop of rolling green hills.
On offer is a daily menu of healthy, hearty meals, a rejuvenating day spa and a wellness program designed to strengthen the immune system, leaving guests feeling recharged and rejuvenated.
The retreat sits amongst manicured gardens and is a short stroll to the majestic Morton National Park, perfect for exploring or getting active.
Manager Fiona Razavet says Solar Springs is ideal for travellers “who wish to focus on themselves for a change.”
“Guests will enjoy healthy meals, daily interactions with nature, and a full schedule of classes that invite you to connect with the mind, body and spirit,” Fiona says.
“Our motto remains ‘you do as little or as much as you like’—it’s your holiday, so we let everyone sleep in, no door knocks. For our early risers we begin with a Vinyasa or Yin yoga with one of our many amazing yoga instructors, before a nutritious breakfast to prepare for your walk in nature.
“Mid-morning you may have a treatment booked or want to try a mindful class. A hearty vegetarian lunch with delicious salads is enjoyed overlooking Morton National Park.
“The afternoon may include an energetic dance class or a workout. Then there’s Aquafit followed by a soak in the spa, and a light afternoon treat with an invigorating tea! Dinner is a delicious set three-course meal where you may enjoy a glass of wine after a fulfilling day. Evenings are for puzzles, a relaxation meditation or may include a powerful sound healing session.”
The retreat’s wellbeing menu give guests an opportunity to complete their wellness journey, with a range of highly experienced consultants and a personalised program to continue at home. Consultants all offer private sessions from nutrition, personal training, yoga and intuitive action right through to traditional Chinese medicine.
The retreat has implemented COVID-safe practices, providing a safe environment to unwind.
“Thankfully we have been able to effectively implement and maintain our five COVID-19 safety plans (one for each department) with only restrictions on some facilities by the way of capacity limits,” Fiona says.
The retreat is currently offering a reconnect and reawaken package, with three main styles of accommodation to suit every budget.
“We create a safe, nurturing space for you to switch off and relax,” says Fiona.
“Beyond your stay, the program empowers you, so you leave with tools to thrive in your everyday life.”
