Canberra’s best trivia nights

Posted on

Here’s a question for you: Trivia is best for which of the following:

a) A fun date night
b) A get together with a few mates
c) An opportunity to win free stuff
d) All of the above, and more.

If you answered ‘D’, then you’re all too aware of how entertaining trivia can be. In fact, few occasions offer the same versatility as the humble trivia night, and luckily, there are events happening weekly across Canberra.

Unfortunately, COVID-restrictions have been the death knell of many of the bigger nights, but we’ve rounded up six of our personal favourites.

The Durham (Kingston)

One of Canberra’s longest-running trivia nights—Fame Trivia—is held at 7 pm each Tuesday night at Kingston’s old-style pub, The Durham.

Hosted by the awesome Larry Appley, there are lots of prizes given away plus a jackpot prize.

Bookings are highly encouraged—it’s known as one of the most popular trivia nights in Canberra and is often full. Go early for a craft beer or a counter meal—The Durham’s a place you can settle in to.

There are even special themed trivia nights—F.R.I.E.N.D.S trivia, anyone?

Hopscotch (City)

What better way to kick start your week? Join Hopscotch for free Monday Trivia, every week at 7 pm.

There are always specials on offer, as well as the usual menu which includes tasty bar snacks and robust pub-style meals.

The Lighthouse (Belconnen)

UC students past and present will always love ‘The Lighty’ for its wild Wednesdays—and it’s worth visiting for Trivia Tuesdays too, with registration open from 7 pm and trivia kicking off at 7.30.

Young and Frisky (Gungahlin)

The Gungahlinites among us know and love Young and Frisky for their American fare (frisky fried chicken, anyone?), but did you know they also offer free trivia on Wednesday nights?

It kicks off at 7 pm and is best accompanied (in our opinion) with a Pimm’s Jug for the table.

Guild (City)

There’s more to Guild than just board games—the Bailey’s Arcade eatery also hosts regular Pop Culture Trivia nights.

While there’s none in the calendar just yet, they’re asking for trivia night suggestions on their Facebook page, so get suggesting.
