The annual Cancer Council Daffodil Day Appeal is a day of support for the 1 in 2 Australians affected by cancer.
As we come to the end of our Canberra winter we can look forward to the bright yellow daffodils that mark the arrival of spring—a symbol of hope for a fresh start and for a cancer-free future.
While Daffodil Day 2021 is this Friday 27 August, with COVID-19 forcing Canberra to stay in lockdown, in-person Daffodil Day fundraisers are no longer a possibility. So CanberraFM had an idea—to support the life-saving research conducted by the Cancer Council by raising funds online while giving locked down Canberrans the possibility of a bright delivery.
Canberrans are being encouraged to donate to CanberraFM’s online Daffodil Day fundraiser and by doing so, they’ll go in the draw to win a (COVID-safe) delivery of gorgeous daffodils by CanberraFM staff dressed as, you guessed it, daffodils!
“With the cancellation of on-site flower sales and collecting this Friday things are looking a bit grim,” says Marketing Director Zac Davies. “So it is up to us to save Daffodil Day while still keeping our community safe. Show your support by donating online and lucky donors will get a COVID-safe delivery of daffodils to their homes.”
While CanberraFM has always loved supporting Daffodil Day, this year the lockdown has meant there’s a serious surplus of blooms to be delivered.
“We’re delivering bunches to donors over the next few days and now with the extra flowers that we’re allocated for Daffodil Day on Friday we have a lot to distribute,” says Zak.
Could a delivery of daffodils by people dressed as daffodils brighten your day? Of course it could. Head to CanberraFM’s fundraising page now to donate, with the fundraiser running to 5 September.
