Australian Dance Week is next week and here are 10 highlights to put in your diary

Each year, Ausdance ACT presents the largest Australian Dance Week program in Australia, throwing the spotlight on a thriving and diverse local dance scene.

This year, Australian Dance Week is from Monday 29 April – Sunday 5 May and across that week you can experience a tasting plate of performances, workshops, and activities for all ages with a range of free classes and events.

Here are 10 highlights to look forward to.

Co_Lab: 24 (29 April – 1 May)

In a movement, sound and visual feast, join Australian Dance Party’s Alison Plevey and Sara Black, with guest artists Melanie Lane (dance), Alex Voorhoeve (cello), Sia Ahmad (sound/voice) and Nicci Haynes (visuals) as they transport you with a live, instantly created performance.

A Night of Afro Dance with Passion & Purpose Academy (30 April)

Join the Deaf Butterflies ACT Dance Group, led by dance artist Debora Di Centa, for a fun, inclusive, and creative dance session (3 May)

Australian Dance Party’s ‘Escape From Plastika’ during Dance and Tree Week (4 May)

Join dance heroes: Alpha, Delta and Pi, time travel to planet Plastika – formerly known as Earth, and otherwise known as Haig Park, to explore the problem of plastic!

Jazida’s Fabulous Dancing Workshop (4 May)

Experience something new

Travel the world of exotic music and dance with Folk Dance Canberra, take your little one to a Blueberries class (it’s the most fun you can have with a toddler in a jam-packed hour), learn how to Kizomba with Kmotion Dance Studio or check out a commercial hip hop class with Fresh Funk Canberra. There really is something for everyone!
