Highland Gathering
The highland gathering is a fun family event, with something for everyone. From kids activities to displays, stalls, food and more, you’ll be sure to find something.

Experience a Blower Door Test on a New Energy Efficient Home in Canberra
See a building envelope pressure test to better understand what makes a home energy efficient!
Are you planning and designing a new home? To ensure your home is toasty warm in winter, and cool in summer, it’s important to minimise the air gaps in the home. It is a standard requirement in Europe and North America to quantify these unwanted gaps by doing a “blower door test”. Experience a blower door test being held at a recently completed home in O’Connor in this free 90 minute session held by the builder, 35 Degrees.

Bonsai Exhibition 2024 Canberra Bonsai Society
The Bonsai Exhibition by the Canberra Bonsai Society is back for another year! This year’s display will feature high-quality bonsai from the collections of CBS members, including some created by local artists represented in the National Bonsai and Penjing Collection of Australia housed at the National Arboretum.
You’ll see highly refined trees on display, some traditional Japanese tokonoma-style displays, daily demonstrations and have the chance to browse the plant sale! It’s an excellent opportunity to buy bonsai and stock plants of a quality not often available in Canberra.

Wienerpalooza
This is a celebration of all things dachshund! Taking place at Dionysus Winery, Wienerpalooza is a fun filled day dedicated to your favourite dog.
Head along to watch dachshund races, dress up competitions, and have the chance to meet other dogs and their owners. Adult tickets include a glass of wine and four delicious chocolates from Woo Chocolates while the kids can enjoy a soft drink or juice and three kids chocolates. Space Time! Episode 2
Step into the beauty and mysteries of the universe!
This immersive show features the latest breathtaking images from humanity’s best telescopes, a Bright Stars version for sensitive people (especially those under eight years old) each morning, and a longer version called Darker Matter for those wanting a deeper immersion in space. The Queanbeyan-Palerang Arts Trail
The Queanbeyan-Palerang Arts Trail is a celebration of our local artistic talent in Braidwood, Bungendore, and Queanbeyan in the first three weekends in October! It’s the perfect excuse to hit the road and enjoy all that the region’s creatives have to offer, from beautiful ceramics to glassworks, paintings, textiles, jewellery and much, much more.

Little Shop of Horrors
Little Shop of Horrors was one of the longest-running Off-Broadway hits, that’s has been delighting audiences all around the world for decades.
A hilarious comedy rock musical about a meek and mild florist shop assistant, Seymour Krelborn, who raises a blood eating, R&B singing, foul-mouthed plant he names Audrey II, after the co-worker he is secretly in love with, don’t miss this fun, funny and rocking adventure!

The Boy From Oz
A local Canberra production of the hit musical ‘The Boy from Oz’ will be hitting the stage at The Q, showing audiences Australia’s most successful musical ever, and the first to make it to Broadway. The musical biography/tribute to the late great Peter Allen is based on the book by Nick Enright with music and Lyrics by Martin Sherman.

Pub Choir – Honest Feedback Tour

Brass on the Grass
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the incorporation of the spirit of brass in Canberra.
Head along to Brass on the Grass to hear the Canberra Brass, Victoria Street Brass and Newbery Brass as they march up Victoria Street, from the Hall Post Office to the grounds playing “Village March” (which was written for Hall followed by the brass band concert on the grounds of Hall Heritage Centre). Entry to the concert is free and will feature the music as well as food options for purchase, but you can also pack a picnic to enjoy with family and friends on the grass.

Over Seas
This is an open exhibition for Canberra’s migrant communities.
Featuring the works of over 75 Canberra region artists who have migrated to Australia, from the political to the personal (and including everything from traditional art forms to contemporary perspectives), these artists give us a glimpse into the diversity of their journeys and the rich array of stories that make up Canberra’s multicultural community.

The Materialisation of Testament
This is the culmination of four years of research, and the artistic component of Kerry Martin’s creative practice PhD undertaken at the University of Canberra between 2020 and 2024.
Based primarily on the reports of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse (2012-2017), it seeks to provide another platform to continue the discussion around, and examination of the Catholic Church’s disturbing history of child sexual abuse in this country. Working with a reparative aesthetic, an approach to making beautiful art about brutal topics, it asks the viewer to consider what it might look like if the Church wore the shame of its offences.

8 | Connections | Annual Group Show at GOST
Gallery of Small Things is hosting its 6th Annual group exhibition to coincide with Floriade and its theme Art in Bloom.
Head along to see the work from eight artists outside of Canberra to see their range of new artworks including tiny cups no higher than 2 millimetres to small bird paintings, round framed cyanotypes to wire sculptured objects. You will see a range of works in ceramics, photo media, abstract paintings and multimedia. The cottage garden surrounding the gallery will also be blooming for visitors to enjoy!

Bugs Alive Exhibition
Love bugs? Don’t miss Australia’s largest bug exhibition!
Showcasing over 40 species of bugs, you will come face to face with the world’s deadliest spider in the venom room, uncover what insects live underwater and witness a snail that has hair. You’ll also have the chance to watch a daily bug show and let the kids have some fun with art and craft!

Foundation Traces | Nick Offer
Nick Offer is a figurative painter whose practice has recently expanded to landscape.
His first solo show since 2022, Foundation Traces addresses his current interest in landscape as a record of human activity. You’ll see six large landscapes, focussing on the remains of the NASA Space Tracking Station in the Orroral Valley, depicting various aspects of the ruins of the former station and investigate its incongruous presence within the natural arena of the valley.

Position x Perspective = Perception | Benni Phillips-Nozdrachev
This solo exhibition by Phillips-Nozdrachev presents miniaturised, reconstructed worlds as large-scale installations.
Reflecting time spent walking alone through forests in Finland, Germany and the Snowy Mountains over the past 11 years, the concept is by collecting and documenting physical, mental and spiritual materials, objects become past, present and future marks of time, translated by environmental consciousness into multidimensional habitats.

Garden Promenade
Featuring textile works by Sharon Peoples, this exhibition speculates on what could have been if Sarah Sophia Banks had travelled to Australia instead of only her brother, Sir Joseph Banks.
Sarah Sophia Banks spent much of her time advancing Joseph’s career while building her own priceless collection of coins, medals, visiting cards, satirical prints and print ephemera. She had an ‘eyebrow-raising fashion sense’ and was often described as a ‘fashion whip’. Artist Sharon Peoples focuses on motifs of plants collected by Sir Joseph Banks, such as flannel flowers, grevilleas and banksias using the live collection of the Australian National Botanic Gardens.

Island Hopping: A Solo Show by Jeffrey Sarmiento
Known for his creative practice exploring cultural identity and the graphic image in glass, Jeffrey Sarmiento embeds layers of information in his intricately constructed objects, sculptures and public commissions.
An expert in kiln formed and digital fabricated glass, he uses cutting and pasting of printed glass lenticular imagery and within the transparent medium, allowing imagery to swim within the pieces. Head along to the Canberra Glassworks to see his work, which helps him to expose complex narratives and create new ways of seeing.

Mythica Ignota: Solo Exhibition by Elliat Rich
Showcasing new work developed during Elliat Rich’s residency at Canberra Glassworks throughout 2024, Mythica Ignota uses mythology as a framework to nest scientific observation and more-than-human orientated values with artefact and narrative.
Curated by Aimee Frodsham, in this exhibition Alice Springs designer Elliat Rich taps into ancient and future ways of seeing the world.

Open Gardens Spring
Each spring and autumn, Open Gardens Canberra opens a diverse range of interesting and beautiful open gardens in Canberra, Queanbeyan and surrounds. This October, you can explore the ‘My Therapy’ in Gerrilong Gardens in Reid, the ‘BeaverLea’ & ‘Narrawong’ side by side in Astelia Place, Rivett, ‘Hillside’ in Sullivan Crescent, Wanniassa and ‘Fairview’ in Euree Street, Reid.
All visitors are welcome and there is a $10 entry fee for non-member adults that helps fund community grants and a horticultural scholarship.

Carnival of the Animals
This is a free family workshop for animal lovers! From the fabulous fairy wren to the spiky echidna, the bouncing kangaroo to the elusive spotted quoll, an indigenous animal parade is coming to the Celebrate Gungahlin Festival.
You’ll have the opportunity to create costumes props, banners, flags and decorations that reflect your own inner wild animal and your connection to the environment we all share. You can drop in to a single workshop, or come along for multiple sessions to keep building and refining your creations. The workshops are suitable for ages four and up, and children must be accompanied by a guardian at all times.

Flowers In The Garden Tour
Spend time exploring the beautiful historic gardens of Lanyon Homestead! You’ll be surrounded by vast fields and the towering Brindabellas.
Featuring a specially designed garden bed for Floriade – Art in Bloom, inspired by the work of Sidney Nolan, you’ll join expert guides on a tour of the garden and discover the layers of history in the landscape.

Belonging: Stories from Far North Queensland – Workshop and Artist Visit
Join established and emerging First Nations artists from the Pormpuraaw Arts and Culture Centre in Far North Queensland for a series of workshops in conjunction with the exhibition Belonging: Stories from Far North Queensland.
You’ll create your own original and sustainable artwork using abandoned fishing nets recovered from the beaches around Cape York and other reclaimed materials and engage with First Nations artists featured in Belonging: Stories from Far North Queensland.

Dream Procession Giant Puppet Making Workshops
The whole family can enjoy some free fun, in four three-hour community workshops with artists Julia Higgs and Tom Buckland. Participants of TAC’s Giant Puppet Making Workshops will co-create large, brightly coloured puppets.
Taking inspiration from the bird and botanical life of the park to create the characters, you’ll work with the artists to build the armatures and then collaboratively, decorate, paper-mache and paint the puppets. At the completion of these workshops, you can also become a puppeteer and participate in a free public performance in Eddison Park!
