This ‘tequila-fuelled lounge bar’ is now open on Lonsdale Street

Not so long ago, you could count on two fingers the number of Mexican venues in Canberra. Now? You can’t swing a burrito without hitting one. Meet the newest addition – Paloma’s.

Right next door to Hopscotch – and with the same owner, Nick Parkinson – Paloma’s is described as three parts bar, one part restaurant (inspired by its namesake cocktail – three parts grapefruit, one part tequila). And it’s now open.

It’s Mexican-inspired, serving up an impressive line-up of Mezcal, Tequila, cocktails (including frozen margaritas, a Champagne Pina Colada, and Liquid Churros–spiced rum, coffee tequila, Dulce de Leche, cinnamon, condensed milk and cold drip espresso), local wines and a Paloma’s collab Mexican Lager with Capital Brewing Co. Relaxed and shareable Latin-style bites – tacos and moreish bowls of chips and guac – will no doubt go down a treat.

Want to know what else is on the menu? Highlights include fresh oysters served with Mexican mignonette, onion, coriander jalapeno and pineapple sorbet with rum syrup, coconut foam, and pralines.

Nick says the team wanted to create “a venue infused with a light-hearted touch that captures the essence of a beer garden experience, while offering a more eccentric interpretation of laid-back vibes.”

With both indoor seating and an outdoor alfresco area with street appeal (not to mention a DJ booth), it’s set to be an inviting option for the long hot summer ahead.
