Seven ways to celebrate Halloween in Canberra

Posted on

It’s that time of year again when all the ghouls come out to play. And play hard they do!

This year, Halloween is heating up with some pretty spooktacular parties and activities, so don a costume and get celebrating.

Running Scared

Ever wondered how you would fare if you were running from a horde of flesh-ravaging zombies?

Well, this October you can find out as Lake Burley Griffin is transformed into a 5km course for Running Scared, full of bloodcurdling characters that scare the hell out of you and chase you—forcing you into full survival mode and running that 5km marathon!

Ending with a monster dance party at Mooseheads featuring DJ powerhouse The Potbelleez, a Halloween bar, and food trucks, Running Scared is a Halloween twist on boring marathons, and it’s totally worth the terror.

Saturday 12 October from 7 pm | Stirling Park in Yarralumla | $82.50 including entry into the after-party |

Canberra Zombie Walk 2019

The Canberra Zombie Walk is back after a hiatus last year to spread the infection into the Canberra City and support the Brain Foundation while they do it!

Don your best zombie outfit before joining the horde to shuffle into the Canberra City, ending the walk at Gareama Place and keeping the party going into the Reload official after party.

Saturday 26 October from 2.30 pm | Glebe Park, Canberra City | $10 an adult, $5 a child | Facebook

Nightmare on Verity Lane

Keep the Zombie Walk vibes going by heading to the backstreets of Treehouse and Reload Bar and Games for their carnival of souls party, Nightmare on Verity Lane.

With DJ Black Temple and ghouly guests mixing up the DJ booth, Halloween cocktails from blood bags, syringes and street food by Grease Monkey, Gamma.con will also be running a costume contest for the most deadly look this Halloween.

Best of all? Entry is FREE!

Saturday 26 October from 7 pm | Reload Bar and Games, 38 Northbourne Ave, Canberra City | Free entry | Facebook

Mooseheads Halloween Weekend 2019

It’s not a Halloween to-do list unless it mentions something about Mooseheads, and this year the iconic pub and nightclub are putting on three different events to celebrate.

With a designated cheap student night on Thursday 31 October, a special Trick or Treat party on Friday 1 November and a giant Halloween party on Saturday 2 November, Mooseheads will have you rising from the grave for three nights in a row this Halloween.

Thursday 31 October until wee hours of Sunday morning | Mooseheads Pub and Nightclub,105 London Cct, Canberra City | There will be a cover charge at the door | Facebook

Fangoria x Monster Fest 2019

Love campy, gory old-school horror movies? Well, Fangoria is bringing them to Capitol Cinemas Manuka for a four-day-long film festival!

Starting Halloween night, watch iconic underground horror movies such as The Furies, Porno, Riot Girls, Bliss, Vivarium, Satanic Panic and Blood Vessel back to back or at single sessions.

With these horror movies ranging from fighting evil in an abandoned Nazi submarine, a cult of fabulous Beverly Hills devil worshippers, a brilliant painter trying new extremes to fix her creative writers block, and a sexy succubus unleashed from a 35mm skin flick; this horror movie fest is without a doubt going to be the most alternative Halloween activity you will do this year.

31 October – Sunday 3 November | Capitol Cinemas Manuka | A five film pass is $70, or a single session is $20 | Website

Hoppy Halloween, we’re here for the boos!

Hopscotch is throwing it’s annual Halloween party with a twist this year–it’s happening all weekend!

From Friday 1 November to the wee hours of Sunday 3 November, Hopscotch will be kicking up its witchy heels with Halloween themed cocktails and shots, trick or treat prizes, and costumes galore.

It’s going to be a ghoulishly good time.

Friday 1 November from 11 am until close Sunday 3 November | Hopscotch, 5 Lonsdale Street, Braddon | Free entry | Facebook

Raveyard: A Halloween Rave

For the first time in Canberra you can party with the dead at Raveyard, a new Halloween themed rave.

This old-school style rave is still a secret and taking place in a mystery location so I can’t tell you much about it, but it’s going to be so loud you could wake the dead.

Friday 1 November from 9 pm | Location is secret! Sign up to the Facebook page to find out soon.
