The Great Canberra Cook Off: the search is on
Posted on
Do you love whipping up something fresh and tasty in your kitchen? Or do you have a budding little chef in your home? If so, I’m talking to you!
In partnership with Healthier Choices Canberra, an ACT Government initiative promoting healthier food choices through businesses in the Canberra community, I’m super-duper excited to announce: The Great Canberra Cook Off!
We’re on a mission to find Canberra’s most creative and talented home cooks who can make easy, delicious meals, with a healthy twist and inspire Canberrans to do the same.
This Canberra wide search is on for the next few weeks. The finalists in each category will be invited to a cook-off event, where they’ll battle it out for the title!
To enter, simply shoot a 60-second video telling us why you should be the next great Canberra cook along with your recipe.
Everything you need to know about the comp and how to enter can be found on the website.
There are some awesome prizes up for grabs not to mention the epic status of holding the title for The Great Canberra Cookoff and the Canberra celebrity status that goes along with that!
There are three age categories to enter:
The ‘Little’ Chef – primary school kids
Get your kids into the kitchen as early as you can! They’ll never be more motivated to get involved in cooking than when they are at this young age.
If kids grow up familiar with vegetables and other whole, fresh ingredients, they can confidently chop and have basic cooking skills, they’ll be set for life with the tools to feed themselves well.
If you’ve got a budding little chef sprouting in your home, then we’d love for you to get them involved! All they have to do is share a favourite meal or snack they like to cook or prepare for school and give it a healthy twist.
The ‘Teen’ Chef – high school kids
Give someone a fish and feed them for a day, teach them to fish and feed them for a lifetime. The habits we create in our teens often stay with us into adulthood.
One of the greatest skills and habits we can build into our teenagers is the ability to prepare and cook healthy food.
If you are—or know—a budding teen chef who loves to cook with fresh foods, has a passion for healthy eating and is keen to inspire other Canberra teens to get in the kitchen, then please encourage them to get involved!
The ‘Stripped-Back’ Chef –18 years and over category
We know that one of the biggest barriers to healthy eating in Australia is a lack of time to cook at home. And having minimal skills in the kitchen.
There’s a huge demand for easy, tasty, healthy meals, that are quick to prepare or even just re-heat. It also means we spend more and more time eating food away from home.
Wouldn’t it be great if there were more delicious, yet healthier options you could grab from your local sporting canteen on the weekend or while you’re at the local play centre with your kids?
We’re looking for adults who love to cook and have a healthy home-cooked meal or snack, that can be prepared in a ‘stripped-back’ kitchen with minimal equipment, who’d also like the Canberra celebrity status of winning The Great Canberra Cook Off!
Bonus points if the recipe can be made into a product to be sold from school and sporting canteens in the Canberra community.
Entries close on Monday 11 November so get cooking and get those entries in! Head to health.act.gov.au/cookoff
