Grease Monkey expands to pizza

What could fill the fish-and-chip-shaped hole in our hearts left by the closure of Braddon’s Catch? Turns out it’s pizza.
When news filtered down of the imminent closure of Braddon fish and chippery Catch at the end of June, it didn’t take long for people to start speculating on what would fill its space.
A bigger Grease Monkey? A purveyor of healthy sides to go with the burgers? There was even a rumour that Milky Lane would be moving in… Wrong on all counts.
Because it turns out the answer is pizza. Yep, pizza.

Ever heard of Detroit-style pizza? Now you have.
Detroit-style pizza or DSP is what Grease Monkey will be slicing daily, with eight DSPs to choose from, including classics, Grease Monkey originals and vegan options, with gluten-free available across the menu.
So what exactly is DSP? The pizza gets its name from the square pans in which it’s cooked, inspired by auto parts from the Motor City.

With all elements made in-house and cooked in Greasy’s new speciality pizza oven, the Greasy’s team say that Canberra is ready for DSP.
“If you look over to the US and a handful of joints in Sydney and Melbourne, DSP is starting to take off. We think we’re on to something here.”
“The pizza itself is possibly the best we’ve tasted. Think light, thick and crispy, specialty cheese blends, heaps of sauce and toppings… Because of the shape, the cheese caramelizes around the outside of the pizza, so make sure you get to the corner pieces first.”

As Greasy’s approach serving their 1,000,000th burger, they’re also keen for a new challenge.
“Essentially, what we did with burgers, we’re going to do with pizza. Things are about to get a whole lot greasier.”
“This is especially true for one lucky customer who will walk away with a years’ worth of Greasy’s Pizza to share with their mates. Just a little celebration gift from us.”
As for how this lucky customer can get their mitts on a year’s worth of free pizza and when Grease Monkey’s DSP offering will open, you’ll have to stay tuned…
