First Look: Braddon’s Moo Moo luxe frozen yoghurts (as much for the grown-ups as the kids)
Posted on
Not all frozen yoghurts are created equal.
And that’s what Canberra couple Kika and Tony discovered when they decided they preferred the slightly tangy version of frozen yoghurt to the plethora of designer ice-creams that are on offer across the city.
So obsessed did they become with frozen yoghurt, they wondered why Canberra didn’t have a high-end offering. So they took the plunge and have created their own blend, their own brand, and, opening on Friday, their very own store, Moo Moo.
Veering very much towards the Japanese, luxe forms of frozen yoghurt than the confectionary versions, Moo Moo’s Lonsdale Street location in Braddon (in the Ori Building where Enigma Chocolates used to be) is sure to draw a crowd.
Its terrazzo tiles, pastel palette and designer lighting screams ‘date night’ as much as a place to stop by with the smalls for an afternoon snack.
The couple notes that the location makes it a bit of a destination spot for people of all ages to hang out, as well as a likely drawcard for anyone needing a frozen yoghurt break while shopping, an after-school hangout for the teens, or even a morning tea break for nearby office workers.
And what exactly will they be ordering? We’re glad you asked.
Moo Moo will be offering signature blends of premium flavours (sourced locally as well from Italy) which appear to have every food intolerance covered. There’s the Moo Moo classic (95 per cent fat free vanilla/ tarte base), strawberry (gluten-free), coconut (vegan, lactose-free, GF), blueberry (GF), chocolate (GF), lychee (GF), hazelnut (GF), Crème Brûlée (GF), and orange (GF).
Swirling your choice in a cup is then followed by the arduous decision-making process inherent in deciding, well, what comes next?
You could try seasonal fruit such as strawberries, blueberries, pineapple or banana with syrup, lychees in syrup, or watermelon?
And if so, do you need a fruit sauce with that? Options include passion fruit sauce (GF, lactose-free, vegan, Halal, Kosher), blueberry sauce (GF, lactose-free, vegan), or sour cherries in sauce (GF, lactose-free, vegan, Halal, Kosher).
Of course, if fruit sounds a little too virtuous, you could try a little something sweeter.
There’s a selection of creamy sauces that can be served at room temperature or warm, including butterscotch (GF, Halal, Kosher), white chocolate (GF, Halal Kosher), Biscoff (Halal), pistachio (GF, Halal, Kosher), Nutella, salted caramel, peanut butter, strawberry (GF, lactose-free, vegan, Halal, Kosher), Ribena or choco-nut.
And THEN, you can get cracking with the additions. There’s chocolate cookie crumble (GF), raspberry cookie crumble (GF), popping boba in mango or strawberry, edible cookie dough, cashew butter and sea salt brownie (GF), Belgian chocolate brownie (GF, vegan), Oreos, white choc buds, Kit Kats, granola, crushed almonds of Brazil nuts.
And finally (for those who like the more commercial lolly additions), there’s a selection of all your favourite mini M&Ms, Maltesers, Jelly Beans, Mochi Marshmallows, colour clouds and sour spaghettis.
We cannot end this story without mentioning some handy flavour combinations should you arrive at Moo Moo and have your mind go completely blank from too much choice.
Try the Ferrero Rocher—combine Hazelnut and Chocolate frozen yogurt, with chocolate crumble, kit kat, and choco nut sauce.
The Pina Colada combines coconut frozen yogurt, with fresh pineapple, topped with white chocolate sauce, while the Ultimate Breakfast Bowl is Moo Moo Classic frozen yoghurt with granola, almonds, fresh strawberry, passion fruit, banana in syrup, blueberries in sauce, topped with Peanut butter.
Yes, we said it, Breakfast Frozen Yoghurt. As if you actually needed an excuse to visit Moo Moo before lunch…
