Feeling hot, hot, hotpot: Zhangliang Malatang has landed on the southside

Posted on

With lines out the door weekly, Zhangliang Malatang is fast becoming one of Canberra’s most popular restaurants.

After the instant popularity of their first City West restaurant in 2021 a second store opened in Gungahlin in 2022 and now the southside has their own Zhangliang Malatang as part of Westfield Woden’s Asian Dining Precinct on Corinna Street.

For those who haven’t had the pleasure, malatang is a Sichuan version of Chinese hotpot, a dish where ingredients are selected from a diverse buffet that features vegetables, noodles, meats, seafood and sauces to form a soup that can be as unique as you are.

The malatang difference, however, comes from the mala sauce, a Sichuan chilli pepper sauce that can cause a slight numbing sensation and is completely delicious.

Popular worldwide for its heartiness, versatility and generous servings, malatang is your chance to play chef and customer as you select your ingredients and then bring them to the Zhangliang Malatang chefs who will charge you based on the weight of your ingredients and then cook your dish in a soup base of your choice.

To celebrate its arrival at Westfield Woden, Zhangliang Malatang has a special opening offer from now until 24 December 2023 — a whopping 20% discount. See in-store for further details.

Please note Zhangliang Malatang will be closed on 25 December.
