Sunday Supper Club: Janet Jeffs
Posted on
Our April Winning Appliances Sunday Supper Club features one of the champions of the Canberra dining scene—Ginger Catering’s Janet Jeffs.
When’s the last time you enjoyed a three-course meal cooked by one of Canberra’s leading chefs for less than $50 per person? That’s the concept of the Sunday Supper Club, presented in collaboration with Winning Appliances.
HERE’S HOW IT WORKS
On the first Sunday of each month, the Winning Appliances’ Kingston showroom is transformed into an intimate dining environment for just 24 guests.
The next event features Ginger Catering’s Janet Jeffs at a Sunday Supper Club featuring one of the champions of the Canberra dining scene showcasing innovative French and Asian cuisine using regional and seasonal produce.
You’ll watch Janet whip up her creations in the Winning Appliances demonstration kitchen and hear the story of her food journey in a conversation hosted by HerCanberra CEO Amanda Whitley.
Your ticket price includes matched wines and entertainment.
You’ll leave not only with full stomachs but with loads of ideas and inspirations for entertaining at your place.
ABOUT THE CHEF
Janet Jeffs is Director and Executive Chef of Ginger Catering, based at the National Arboretum, Canberra. Her career began in Adelaide more than 40 years ago, when an undergraduate degree in Fine Art at Stanley Street was gazumped by an apprenticeship with Cheong Liew, one of the 10 most influential chefs in the world.
Her interest in cooking, farming and sharing a passionate enthusiasm for regional, seasonal and ethical produce was manifested during her career as a young chef with culinary legend Maggie Beer and her restaurant Kilkanoon in the Clare Valley.
After spending years in Adelaide establishing her career, Janet moved to Canberra in 1995 and opened Juniperberry, a small, successful, fine dining restaurant to be awarded one Chef’s Hat in the Sydney Morning Herald Good Food guide in every year of operation from 1996 to 2000. Juniperberry moved to the National Gallery of Australia and Janet then established Ginger Catering at Old Parliament House, opening The Ginger Room in March 2004.
After more than 10 years at Old Parliament House, in 2013 Ginger Catering moved to the newly opened National Arboretum, a huge 250-hectare site, one of the world’s largest living collections of rare, endangered and significant trees.
Janet is regarded as Canberra food royalty (scary for a republican) and was recently made a food ambassador for ACT Tourism. She lives in bucolic bliss on a heritage property near Braidwood where she raises rare breed beasties, gardens and plans self-sufficiency.
